Betsyjane 2 Posted December 29, 2006 Halliburton lost money big time when Cheney ran it, but he got a huge bonus severence. He was put in charge of Halliburton, not to run it well, but because of the connections he had with politicians, so in the long run, it worked. Halliburton got those choice contracts in the Middle East, and Cheney sits in Washington overseeing them. Somebody had their eye on the long term ball at Halliburton! BJean 16 Posted December 29, 2006 Betsyjane: Some of the very vocal Bush & Cheney supporters in the media are finally admitting that Iraq is really about the oil. They've worked out some spin that they think will make it look like it's the best thing for America. What they don't point out is how many American lives have been sacrificed in the process and what a terrible mess the war is leaving in its' wake.
Betsyjane 2 Posted December 29, 2006 I think it's also about surrounding Iran by having a presence in Afghanistan and Iraq. Iran must be laughing.....
green 6 Posted December 29, 2006 Dick Cheney's motto....Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out. Hahahahaha :faint: Bravo, Carlene!
BJean 16 Posted December 29, 2006 Iran probably couldn't have planned it better if they'd tried.
green 6 Posted December 30, 2006 Yep, it is happy days for Iran, ain't it? And if it is a real right royal mess in the Middle East, well, at least the Rapturists will be in a state of rapture. Someome is going to go home happy, eh.............
Betsyjane 2 Posted December 30, 2006 Too bad the whole middle east didn't decide to go the way of duBai and just spend money building neat things.... Then we could have blown all our money vacationing there instead of doing a war.
BJean 16 Posted December 30, 2006 Betsyjane: My DH just got back from Abu Dhabi and if ya gotta go to that region, Abu Dhabi and Dubai are definitely the places to spend some time! (Even tho he was in a lux hotel with all the trappings, he'd still rather be in a Raddison deep in the heart 'o Tejas.) In the hotel where he stayed this time, they had a girls group all decked out in red and white Christmas attire (short skirts, even) and they sang American Christmas songs and even some Christmas carols to entertain the guests. It was surreal. But you're right - too bad they don't all catch the spirit of capitalism and enjoy life.

The first time, they kept him there - in a nice hotel - for almost 2 weeks because things were so unstable in Baghdad. He LOVED it!
Betsyjane 2 Posted December 31, 2006 I would love to go see the islands they created. What an amazing feat!
BJean 16 Posted December 31, 2006 What about the winter resort they built in Dubai? Now that took some folding money!

BJean 16 Posted December 31, 2006 Uh, okay. NO. I'd rather go skiing in Vail and ice skating in Ottowa. I don't have to worry so much about losing my head (literally).
green 6 Posted December 31, 2006 Sad thing about Ottawa: thanks to our mild winter all you can do is go boating.:cry And Toronto, Canada, is still entirely green!
BJean 16 Posted December 31, 2006 OMG! That's amazing news about the weather up there! It's probably Dubya's fault. I'll bet a lot of the natives are happy about it though. They usually complain about too much snow and cold! Spring too short and all that. I miss it still.
