George Bush: Worst American president in history

Recommended Posts

Green: Good idea for Dobson - might strengthen his marriage.

As for Clinton, at least we can be fairly certain we had a president with a healthy prostate.

Green: They certainly are weird folk. About all you can do is giggle and take another shot of whatever's handy.

My first husband's brother was an evangelist. Of the Southern Baptist persuasion. In 1968, he was absolutely certain that the Rapture was going to happen within the next 10 years. He would preach for hours citing tons of written "proof" that as soon as the Israelites recaptured their lost ground, the Rapture would ensue. Poor dude is still waxing eloquent with the same old tripe. Far freakin' out!

Wow, girl! I've never got up close and personal with one of those guys! Did he cover you with spit when he was preaching?

I'm surrounded by avid born again folks in Houston, but we also have Joel Osteen, who is a good motivational speaker. Guess it all evens out.

Betsyjane: I wouldn't have spoken with such a negative tone about the born again Christians quoted above, except for the fact that in some ways they are running things in this country, and except for the fact that some of them are trampling on our freedom. Otherwise I wouldn't care what they say or how they say it.

I do get your point about Osteen. You could also mention Billy Graham, who's a born again. I have a lot of respect for him. He is a rational believer who for the most part preaches love and kindness. You may not agree with all of his teachings, but he doesn't spew the hateful venom that those do who are quoted in the post from Carlene.

So I'm weird? Thanks.

I thought you were staying away from this thread because of all the unreasonable people here...and then you post the above...fascinating.

I used to lurk occasionally on a site called, I believe, Rapture Ready.

I think THAT'S a little weird. Sorry, but I don't get the point.

James Dobson must be a Republican. I wonder exactly who might consider sexual misconduct with a child "sort of a joke"?

On the October 6, 2006 broadcast of Focus on the Family, Dobson commenting on the congressional page scandal stated,

We condemn the Foley affair categorically, and we also believe that what Mr. Clinton did was one of the most embarrassing and wicked things ever done by a president in power. Let me remind you, sir, that it was not just James Dobson who found the Lewinsky affair reprehensible. More than 140 newspapers called for Clinton's resignation. But the president didn't do what Mr. Foley has done in leaving. He stayed in office, and he lied to the grand jury to obscure the facts. As it turns out, Mr. Foley has had illicit sex with no one that we know of, and the whole thing turned out to be what some people are now saying was a -- sort of a joke by the boy and some of the other pages

I'm a bit worried that a consensual BJ is considered one of the most "Wicked" things done by a president.

I loved him as president, but I think what he did with Monica was horrid. He's married and he's the president, for pete's sake. I'd still vote for him again because I liked the job he did, but I coulda castrated him!

My bad...all the Bush supporters look alike to me. Maybe it's the blinders...

In that case...if you belong to Rapture Ready or any similar group or espouse those beliefs, yup, you're weird. YMMV

Editing to add...here are a few of the INNUMERABLE End-of-Times/Doomsday/Rapture/Second Coming Scheduled Appearances. Do we need to buy tickets for ALL of them?

Behave yourself, Sue. Most mainstream fundamentalists (is that an oxy moron?) don't believe ANY of that stuff. They don't put a date on the Rapture and generally distrust anyone who does. The Bible says, "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone."

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
