George Bush: Worst American president in history

Recommended Posts

Whew, I finally just finished reading this thread. Do I detect a note of hostility toward our President?:o Now that it seems you all have let off a little steam and hopefully voted I would like to know what you expect from our politicians in the next 2 years? It is easy to criticize but I think it is much harder to come up with solutions. The issues are multifaceted and clearly we are not a one-size-fits-all nation. For example, if you believe the Iraq war is a stupid Bush mistake, would you pull the troops out now?, all at once or phased?, how would you handle the promises made to the Iraqi people?, would you change the program in Iraq, become more agressive inorder to dispatch the opposition more quickly? What should our government do to solve this problem? Please look at any issue - SS, immigration, energy, health care, elder care, fiscal policies, international relations, North Korea just to name a few. I look forward to your thoughts.

Terri

Interesting questions. Do I have all the answers? Nope. I don’t have access to the information that those who make decisions do. I don’t have the skills I want my leaders to have to well, lead.

And not having all the answers doesn’t mean I can’t complain when I don’t agree with what is being done. The war in Iraq for example. We went in under a banner of “they have WMD and will target us”. It became “we need to liberate them”.

I think we need to leave. I don’t think we ever will create a stable society there. At most, we might be able to give them some tools to create it themselves. I would like to see a reasonable definition of what “victory” looks like. And plans for bringing our troops home based on milestones that we can achieve. I don’t think we can just pull out tomorrow.

lisah25, once again you have given a thoughtful answer. Of course we don't have all the information and of course we don't have all the answers but you did answer some of my questions, thankyou. Don't stop there, I just used the Iraq war as a starting point.

My thoughts exactly!!! I have been saying that for ages and no one seems to understand what I mean. Thanks, Lisa.

Once it was determined that the WMD did not exist and we were not in any danger of being bombed by Iraq, we should have tiptoed very quietly to the nearest exit and closed the door behind us as we LEFT THE COUNTRY.

God did not put us in charge of the planet Earth. We do not get to decide who needs "liberating" and who doesn't. We are entitled to protect ourselves - our homeland. That's all!!!!! If the world were a grade school playground, the USA would be the biggest bully in the whole place.

Thanks for asking Alex!

She is a state representative here in CO. This is her 4th and final term. I think she will probably run for state senate when her 2 year term as a rep is up. She's a pretty cool lady for a MIL!

DrewsLou- Fabulous news! Please tell her that we love the fact that she was re-elected and we want more competent women in government. I would like to believe that if we had at least 50% of the seats in the House and Senate held by women this country might not be in the terrible mess it's in right now.

Speaking of women in politics

I'd vote for Hillary Clinton should she run for President. I would love the Clintons back in office.

Telly...

Me, too. I think Hillary is way smarter than Bill, more politically savvy, and a thousand times classier. When Newt's mom confided to Connie Chung on TV that he had called Hillary a bitch, I thought Hillary's response - to invite Mrs. Gringrich to lunch - was dignity personified.

Many people think that Hillary is a shoo-in to be the Democratic candidate for president in 2008. I don't know if any of you have noticed Obama's posturing lately, but if you'd like to see Hillary in the presidency, we better get our acts together because he's gonna garner enough support to stage an upset at the convention. It has been done many times in the past, in fact my first memory of it was when John Kennedy outmaneuvered Lyndon Johnson who was thought to have the nomination in the bag.

Exactly my point. That woman is a phenomenon. She's got it all. I truly believe she ran the entire office to include President Clinton the entire 2 terms he served. I believe she was the real president behind the president.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
