Today was the last month of my 3 month visits. I have lost 13 pounds since my first visit Oct 31. I cut out Beer and changed my eating not by much tho. I only have my seminar on Jan 24 and my psych Evaluation which is next Wednesday. Once these are complete they will submit to insurance. I have Aetna and I'm kinda worried about my approval. My BMI is 46 I have high blood pressure and severe sleep apnea. One thing about Aetna I have noticed by reading these post that if your paper work is correct they won't deny you. Can anyone give me pointers on the psych evaluation on what to expect?

I also have Aetna and was approved in less than 2 weeks. All of my ducks were in a row and my primary supported me fully which helped a lot. The psych eval for me was super easy. It took all of 15 minutes and he basically asked how long I had been overweight, how it affected my mood, any past mental health information, and other really mundane stuff like that. He wrote a lot down but it was really no biggie. Good luck! I had a wonderful experience with Aetna and I hope you have the same.

My psych visit was for 1 hr then I had to take a 500 question psychological assessment test. Took about 2 hrs. Only took Aetna about 2 weeks to approve. Good luck!

Thanks. Becky. My coordinater told me a note from my PCP wasn't really needed. Should I have one anyway?

Hope I don't have to go through that. Lol.

I agree...that sounds terrible!

As for the note, I don't think it's necessary. From what I've experienced and seen Aetna is really easy to deal with and they accept most people quickly.

Mine wasn't bad, I sat in the guy's office and was asked a lot of general psych background questions like if I've ever had depression or if I have stress at work.

I also had the super long questionairre for my psych eval, then discussed the results and a couple others things with the psychologist after. The whole appointment took about 1.5 hours. Not a big deal -they just want to make sure you have realistic expectations and try to detect if you have an eating disorder.

I got the short version guys. It was cool he just asked me questions about my life, my weight history and things like that. He said he feels I'm mentally able and prepared for what I'm about to go through. They submit to my insurance next week. Fingers crossed for my approval.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
