I just was sleeved on Jan 8th, came home on Jan 10th, and started my full liquids today. I just wanted those that are new to this sight to understand that it is not as bad as what you may read on here..... I was reading reading reading on this site before my surgery, and I actually started to get very "worked up" and had to walk away the night before, as I was getting very nervous!

I got to my room after surgery around 11am, and by 1:00, I was up and walking - yes, I was groggy, but because I still had the morphine, I wasn't in pain... BUT.. I quickly figured out that the morphine was making me nauseated, so I switched to hydrocodone ... tasted bad, but much better on my tummy!

I have been able to control my pain - actually I have been making sure I stay ahead of it by taking the pain meds every 4 hours, along with the nausea pill. The worst part for me yesterday was the hearburn - I have NEVER had acid reflux before, and all of a sudden, I know what it feels like - yikes... the docs told me this is normal and my new tummy is just getting used to having something in it (water).

So... what is the key???? WALK WALK WALK... sip sip sip... yep, just what they say to do... I am following it religiously.... it even takes me 15 minutes to sip down my pain meds - but if I go any faster, I feel nauseated!! I am home now, and walking laps around my house, sipping slowly, and taking naps! I feel good and in a good mood!

I just wanted the newbies to know... It's all good!!!.... as long as you do exactly what you are told.... and then some (walking that is)!!!

There are some that despite how closely they follow the plan things don't go as they expected and they don't have such a easy ride, thank Goodness mine has been good to so far, but Most are still glad they did it after things settle down and would encourage others to go for it too. Especially if you are morbidly obeses with other co-morbidities.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
