Beckyyb93 225 Posted January 11, 2013 I was sleeved on the 19th and at first the itchiness of my incisions was just a minor annoyance and not too big of a deal but now it's driving me INSANE. I scratch around them until my skin bleeds, I can't help it they are just SOO itchy. I tried cortizone and it didn't help much so I called my doctor, his nurse told me to rub Vitamin e oil on them so I've been doing that but they still itch. My tummy looks a mess, there are big red rings of irritated skin around each incision. Did anyone else experience this? If so, did you find any tricks to make the itching quit? lexnurse 26 Posted January 11, 2013 If you have demabond (glue) on them you may be allergic to it... I would call the Dr. again and tell them about the red rings

Beckyyb93 225 Posted January 11, 2013 It doesn't look like I have any glue left but it's possible that I had an allergic reaction to it. I have extremely sensitive skin. I took a Benedryl earlier just to see if it'd help and it helped a LOT. 1 ortega07 reacted to this

I took a Benedryl earlier just to see if it'd help and it helped a LOT. I had red welts around my incisions for a about 2 weeks after the glue fell off. The itching started around day 7 PO and was REALLY bad for a week. I had to postpone going back to work because Benadryl was the only thing that helped. I tried not to take it during the day, but at night it was an absolute must. The NP thinks it was an allergy. Good luck. I know what you're going through. NurseGrace 509 Posted January 27, 2013 STOP THAT NONSENSE (scratching) IMMEDIATELY lol the nurse in me is shrieking in horror. Our nails are sooooo dirty. We should be keeping our hands OFF. If they told you to put some oil on it thats fine but ya realllllly gotta stop inflaming the laparoscopy sites. 1 HopeFaith reacted to this
seelessofme 63 Posted January 28, 2013 I used alcohol pads and that seemed to do the trick. I remember how bad that was. I had my surgery in August and thought it had something to do with heat but with AC on, that still didn't help. I feel for you. Try not to think about it. Beckyyb93 225 Posted January 28, 2013 The doctor saw the incisions and said I was allergic to the internal stitches healing or something along those lines and told me to take Benedryl. It helped a lot and now my incisions look great! It was miserable though!

It helped a lot and now my incisions look great! It was miserable though! Oh my goodness, I am so happy to hear that. I was actually thinking about this post wondering if you were ok before I laid down for a nap earlier. The thought crossed my mind that the stitching material could be to blame but I wasn't on the computer anymore. I am so glad you have some relief.
