nekaneek 16 Posted January 11, 2013 So I just had surgery on this past Tuesday, 1/8/13. I'm in so much pain from the surgery. How soon did the pain subside following your procedure? I'm a big baby when it comes to pain so this is really taking a lot out of me... What helped ease the pain aside from the meds? 1 Linda Guckin reacted to this
mokee 588 Posted January 11, 2013 A heating pad helped me. The pain lasted less than a week.
Richard Foor 655 Posted January 11, 2013 Unfortunately post op pain is affected by many factors making it a different experience for everyone. People who tend to have a lower threshold for pain tend to experience more of it post op, or at least they acknowledge more of it. Therefore it is difficult to gauge how long your pain will last based on others experience. That being said in my personal experience most of the post op pain was being caused by excess air/gas in the stomach and esophagus and the best thing for relieving that was to walk as much as possible as well as to sit up or stand up if tolerable. This is because the air is lighter then the other gasses in your body and as such the more upright you are the more likely it will move back up through the system and out, the action of walking also helps keep the gasses moving. As an extra benefit the action of walking also helps to prevent blood clots from forming which is also a serious concern post op. Hope this helps, good luck. TD41 33 Posted January 11, 2013 Hi I agree the first week or so is painful but it will get easier... I used a heating pad and slept in a recliner alot the first week after surgery. Today makes my 2 week postop and i just finished taking a lite walk on the treadmill. I am fatigued but i know i have to start moving at some point. Also what i found to help me with my incisions besides the heating pad is a abdominal binder. It helps me alot. I plan to use it for a while until i feel comfortable about my incisions. If possible try not to bend, twist, or lift anything above 10 lbs . Best of luck to you. I am happy to say after 2 weeks i started at 221 and now im 201.6 from my 2 week post op visit yesterday I believe the best is yet to come 2013!!! nekaneek 16 Posted January 11, 2013 Thanks everbody!!! For the most part the gas pain has subsided, it's just the incision pain I'm dealing with. Sitting and getting back up is what's troublesome. Congrats TD41!!! Hopefully I have large losses as well And I'm gonna try the heating pad to see if that helps me as well...

nekaneek 16 Posted January 11, 2013 @ Ready4anume I haven't had the chest pain since day 2, after I started walking more to get rid of the gas pain. I think they pulled my stomach out on the left so that's where I'm hurting most. But try walking to get rid of chest pain, I was told by my nurses it was trapped gas. Hopefully that helps!!! HopeFaith 15 Posted January 11, 2013 I used a heating throw blanket to sit under when I was 'relaxing'. I am two weeks post-op today. The sharp incision pain is interesting to say the least. I stopped the meds about five days out because I was going back to work on 01/08/13. I had a revision (band to sleeve) so I am blessed with the double whammy of the port being removed and the incision where the stomach was removed. It gets better, I'm much better than I was a week ago. Hang in there!

My incision pain is also absurdly painful, but only the bigger one where they removed the stomach. Anything that involves that involves using the abs, which is almost everything, hurts like hell. Without this pain this whole thing is tolerable. Ugh cant wait to feel normal. 1 nekaneek reacted to this
nekaneek 16 Posted January 12, 2013 @ Linda Guckin, you are so funny!!! Yeah laying down is best to relieve pain but I can't lay around all day, lol. I'm so afraid of the blood clot thing plus walking helps me move any gas along and out. But good luck to you too!!! @ Luckystar12 I think you said it best... I didn't realize my abs were used so much until this surgery lol! And yes once the pain subsides I think we'll be unstoppable as I'm having no other complications, thank God!!! Good luck to all the sleevers who've responded so far. Each of you are great!!! 2 TD41 and Luckystar12 reacted to this
