shrinkadonk 14 Posted January 11, 2013 Being that I no longer feel true hunger, its hard to know how long it takes to empty my tummy. I was told it can hold 3-4 oz at a time. I'm guessing certain foods take longer? Water less? I'm completely ignorant on this. anyone have a clue?
iggychic 1,405 Posted January 11, 2013 There is not a straight answer to that question. If you eat a mix of carbs and Protein it can take up to three hours for the food to clear your stomach. If it's milk, likely 45 mins or so. If it's just carbs, might be an hour, or just Protein, hour too two. But that varies from person to person as well so the only way to have a definitive answer is to do a swallow study followed by a CAT scan taken at variable times. (They sedate you and then take pictures every 5 mins for upwards of an hour). If you're looking for "when to take medicine on an empty stomach" two hours is normally safe to determine that your stomach is empty if you haven't had any complex meals (carbs and protein mixed). 1 JerseyGirl68 reacted to this

Takingcontrol 467 Posted January 12, 2013 I too felt hungry all the time, but my dr released me to eat reg food at 2 wks & it got better then. I guess real food lasts longer & helps keep the hunger away.
