is sleeve healthy or starvation?

Recommended Posts

I researched VSG, and made my decision. At that point, I decided NOT to tell anyone but my spouse, children and Mother. I did not want anyone trying to talk me out of it. Your friends may be concerned, but their not helping you!

So I am 5 days away from consult appointment to b sleeved n it seems like everyone is trying to talk me out of it..friend today who is licensed nutritionist told me that ppl lose weight w sleeve because they are starving themselves and its not healthy..any feedback? I'm still stuck on getting it but want to make my point w him..

I dont think its starvation because our stomach is altered, why eat so much when the stomach is so small? Its supposed to be about eating for survival, not starvation

Also, would the term 'starvation' still apply when we consume x amt. of Protein, vit. and min. supplements and water/liquids? We are not depriving our bodies of these viral components, the calorie restiction does seem low and extreme but I've haven't felt this much energy in years and am being told I look much younger than my 50+ years. If I was starving myself, I doubt I could make those claims.

In order to lose weight, you have to reduce the number of calories you consume. How does your friend define starvation? 1200 calories a day? 1000 calories a day? Where is the line?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
