I asked my NUT and Dr's assistant and they said that everyone's different and I may not have as much swelling as some people I asked about my bougie size and it's 38, but the assistant said that doesn't really matter. I think I am comparing myself to too many people and then watching videos of people that are further out and comparing what I can eat also. I am 5ft 10 so I may have a very long stomach compared to some others. I am just curious. I lost about 12 pounds pre-op and 18 post op. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Traci J. 207 Posted January 10, 2013 I'm not a Dr. or a Nut, but I've found that if you log in your stats into myfitnesspal or another weight loss site, that whatever calories they give you in order to lose 2 lbs. a week you should cut in half. According to what I should have and what my Nut told me to eat it's exactly 1/2. Just an idea, but your nut should definitely tell you about how many calories to be getting. newkat12 65 Posted January 10, 2013 I'm 5 weeks out and eat 600-700 calories per day. I'm on pureed/soft foods for another 3 weeks. I eat 3meals a day, and each meal is 2 ounces. I supplement with Protein Shakes to get a total of 75-80 grams of Protein a day, and also get in a minimum of 80 ounces of Fluid each day. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

lisa2job 130 Posted January 11, 2013 so I am 16 weeks out and I get in about 800 cal a day.... some days more some days less at 6 weeks I was lucky if I could do 500.... make sure you are eating your meat first and you may have to try different types to see what really fills you up ... I found that shrimp is a slider food for me, but cod is good filler, chicken is also really good filler, but eggs is a slider............. so just be paitent you will learn what fills you up and what doesnt through trial and error. Like PEvette I was told to increase my calories at my last Dr appointment but I haven't yet and I am loosing a few lbs a week so I am gonna stay where I am at for now, as I increase my activity like my personal trainer days I will eat more to have more energy.... I was pretty freaked out too because everybody else seems to be saying they only eat around 800 calories a day. But I am losing at a healthy rate and my doctor is pleased with my progress. If I wasn't losing at all, I'd be concerned. I could cut my calories way down and probably drop weight faster at first but I am comfortable with the rate at which I'm losing. Also, my body has a nasty habit of stopping the weight loss if I cut my caloric intake down too low. I get told all the time by people that it's not possible and there's no such thing as "starvation mode" but all I know is my body freaks out and slows my metabolism and then I have no energy and no weight loss. I do wonder sometimes if I'm able to eat more than others with the sleeve because I had the band first. Who knows. And I have no idea what size bougie my doctor used or how big my stomach is now. DivineMissM 60 Posted January 11, 2013 Bougie is also known as a dilator. Essentially it is a long cylinder they put down your throat through your stomach and into your bowel. It ensures that the top sphincter and the opening from stomach to bowel are not compromised. I think I have a long stomach or something and I guess very little swelling still since I've had other surgeries before. I've lost about 3 pounds a week since my surgery if I break it down. As long as that keeps up that will be fine with me. I'm just very scared/ worried still since I've failed at this all my life. I need to let go of that but at 37 years old its tough. mommyradd 115 Posted January 11, 2013 On Tuesday I will be 8 weeks out. I had my follow-up appointment yesterday. Doctors orders are the same as my last follow-up appointment. Eat every two hours, 2 ounces only. Drink in between, including Protein Drinks. I'm to aim for 600-800 calories a day, 80 grams of Protein, and 64 ounces of fluids. My typical day of eating includes 1 egg, 1-2 ounces of cheese, 2 Protein Shakes (drinking in 4 intervals), and 2 ounces of whatever soft meat I can tolerate. I drink Water and iced tea all day long, until I reach the 64 ounces. I measure everything, because I don't want to know how much I can eat, I go by what the doctor says is a portion for me. Since my sleeve is only suppose to hold 1/4 cup, two ounces of food is all I should have. Once my food settles, it is always enough. If I feel those "hunger pains," I drink twenty or thirty minutes later, and it subsides. And fluids, I drink as much as feels comfortable in 30 minutes to an hour. My sleeve can take in more drinks at once than it can foods, which the doctor says is perfectly fine. Hope this helps. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Still on mushies but even when on full liquids I could eat a cup or two of Soup at one sitting before feeling satiated. The 2 oz guidance from my nut been a little impractical at least at this stage (i Undertand i will feel more restriction when i get to solid foods). My calories are also tracking higher than the recommended 600-800 calories so I know I need to be more disciplined about it. My weight loss, not surprisingly has been similarly modest but I am ok and get to start running again this week ( I used to run, ever so slowly pre-op) so I am hoping that will help turn up the fat burner. 3 lbs a week is a really great weight loss if you think about it and gives our skin and brains a chance to keep up. So, I just wanted to say thanks for sharing (I have lots of the same questions/concerns) and wanted to send my encouragement to keep up the forward momentum. I get myself so worked up at times bc I compare myself to other people and forget we are all individuals with very different bodies and different surgeons.
