2013isit 19 Posted January 10, 2013 Hi sleevers. I was sleeved on Tues (Jan 8). I did very well for the first 18 hours after surgery. At that point, they took me off of the patient-controlled IV pain meds and offered me Lortab. What a huge mistake! I had a terrible reaction to the Lortab--even hallucinations. I was talking to my husband like he was my mom. And then the worst--12 hours of dry heaving! I am so scared I could have disturbed my staple line, but the nurses are assuring me I haven't. I am only now feeling better, but in pain becuase I can't even manage to swallow liquid tylenol for fear of puking. Aside from the Lortab incident, I had a decent experience. Did anyone out there dry-heave for the first few days post-op?

cmcl127 8 Posted January 10, 2013 I was sleeved on 11/7/12 and had dry heaves within 24 hours of surgery. I was up through the night my first night after surgery with the dry heaves. They believe it was caused by the anesthesia. I was miserable. They took me off my pain meds IV the next morning and that evening gave me liquid tylenol with codeine and I brought that up. They ended up just giving me a shot through my IV to help. They also gave me something to help with the nausea. I was better by the time I went home 2 days later. It will pass!! Keep strong!! ShrinkyDinkMe22 376 Posted January 10, 2013 When I woke up from surgery i had the heaves. All through the night and into the next morning. I also threw up the lortab the first time they gave it to me and then I refused to take it. They were rotating my anitnausea meds and I also had that patch behind my ear. The hospital I was at didn't seem to be concerned about the heaves hurting my sleeve at the time (sleeved 12/10/12).
kelliteenor 5 Posted January 11, 2013 I was sleeved 7-7-13 also, I was very nauseous, dry heaved some not a lot, but I do have some pains where they made incisions at still, hard to lean up and sore to walk.. Any one else..?? And also I'm just a tad bit nauseated now, I think from liquids..
Radwilk 4 Posted January 11, 2013 I vomited quite a bit of blood the 1st night. Second day less blood and could not swallow a thing. Not even sip out of med cup. I had to stay 3 nights due to all this, but my dr never expressed concern over my staple line. Looking back I think much of my nausea was from pain pump and swelling from surgery and hernia repair. I'm a month out and my staple line is just fine.
shane5958 3 Posted January 11, 2013 My sleeve was on 5/23/12 and i had the dry heaves 12 hrs later and it was were i was put to sleep. A blood pocket formed the size of a soft ball on the opposite side of my staples and they put a second drain in me. I was told were i heaved so hard that i probably busted a vessel. I had a fever with it. I had that drain for about 3 weeks and they pulled it out when the pocket shrunk to the size of a quarter said my body would absorb it and it would take a wile. So if u had the dry heaves and they were so bad that u felt like someone was trying to crawl out ur throat and u start a high fever a day or two later u better get back to the ER and make sure u didn't pop a vessel too......good luck.
