I'm glad I don't live in Texas anymore

Recommended Posts

I've been interested in the comments on Gov. Perry. He's probably going to win. In contrast, our governor in Oklahoma, has raised teacher salaries (albeit to the level of poverty) and has done a good job walking the razor bridge between conservatives and liberals. He's a Democrat but is really quite middle of the road. He will win in a walk which is amazing since most of Oklahoma is heavily Republican. Of course, his opponent is Ernest Istook, possibly the stupidest person ever sent to Washington, except for our senators. He was positioning himself for a run for the presidency by running for governor, but he's losing big time. I think Brad Henry may be a good candidate for President though he hasn't made it big time in the Democratic party. Few do who aren't from the East or West coasts. I've been talking him up at DailyKos.

However, one of our Democratic hopefuls should lose because he recommended students should use thick textbooks as body armor in school shootings. He even did a video on which textbooks would hold up best. Of course, the guy who was doing the shooting couldn't hit a textbook from about 8 feet. But that's what some of the Okies think is the solution to our problems. Being from Oklahoma is always good for a laugh.

Just a little update here....

The governor of Texas HAS given all of our teacher's raises even though the teacher's in Dallas are the highest paid in the nation. Each teacher got a $2,000.00 increase in their income......:biggrin1: Our governor also sent National Guard troops to the border before President Bush ordered them to be called up. Rick Perry has been pretty good for the state of Texas and his opponents have found nothing better to do than to broadcast outright lies about things Gov Perry has done. Gov Perry is extremely hard on sexual offenders for one thing.

Where did you get your information regarding teachers' salaries in Texas????? My DIL is a teacher (HEB ISD) and her salary does not compare with what other states pay.

As for Rick Perry being "pretty good for the state of Texas"....my question would be: good for WHO? Certainly not school children, people who like to camp in state parks, the low-income, elderly, etc.

Rick Perry is best buds with oil companies, utility companies, and the very rich. He said he would not "waste" any more money on education, yet he is "all for" a repeal of the business tax (which hasn't even been enacted yet).

Rick Perry left millions of dollars in matching federal funds on the table and chose instead to cut back on health care for children.

Rick Perry STOLE money from DESIGNATED programs (special license plate fees, energy aid funds for the poor, etc) and added it to the general fund, so that he could then cut taxes to corporations and businesses, based on a state budget surplus.

Those, my friend, are NOT LIES....they are FACTS.

From Gov. Rick Perry's Speech to the Texas Public Policy Foundation…Jan 29, 2004

In fact, when you compare teacher salaries in Texas to the rest of the nation, and include a cost-of-living adjustment, we're 16th in the nation.

I think the graphs that I posted above and the Link on the word "Sorry" pretty much shoot holes in the Texas is tops in teacher's salary theory. :D

You're right....they absolutely do. I just could not resist posting a quote from Rick Perry himself, stating that we are 16th in the nation AFTER A COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENT.

People....unless you can back up your "facts", please reconsider pushing that "submit reply" button. You get angry at the rest of us if we make you look foolish, but it's really something you do to yourselves.

Unfortunately he will probably win. He is not popular with the majority, yet he will win. It just makes me so mad to think that the votes will be spintered by the other 3 and he will just ease right back in.

You can't bring facts to the ones that don't want to hear them. There will always be those that disagree with reality.

I agree. The Independents and disgruntled Republicans are going to re-elect Rick Perry. He must be loving it!

I think it's been established who are the smartest amongst us and who have all the 'facts' and the time and obsession to dig them up. I, for one, submit.

When everyone else submits, then it will just be those who have all the facts to volley them between themselves.

It's really no fun anymore when those who know it all dominate the conversations. Banding, politics, religion, whatever... If it's meant for 'everyone' then try letting everyone have their say without blatantly disputing them and reprimanding them for being such dummies and even attempting to share their views.

I've seen it before. It comes and goes. Move em in, move em out. I'm just still dumb, unenlightened ole me..:D Carry on..

Viva Texas! God Bless America!

Thank you Leatha.

I'm a teacher, a member of the proud-to-be-an-American middle class, and a Republican.

I'm probably pretty stupid, and some may think I have to look up everything I write in a dictionary.

I'm probably so dumb, that I am a pawn of the very wealthy, and fit into the category of "servant of the wealthy" for being stupid enough to be a teacher.

After all, it was the easiest degree to get, and goodness knows, it is such an easy profession!

God Bless America!

People should research their opinions. They couldn't blame other people for pointing out the obvious flaws, then. Trying to pass off an opinion as fact can be very dangerous, especially if it is religion, sex, or politics being discussed. Speech is free, but it is also open to dispute.

If you post something that is factually wrong, expect to be corrected. If you then try to defend your post, even when it is being pointed out that you were completely, undeniably wrong (and people even post their sources to prove you are wrong), expect to be either called a dummie or have it implied. You are free to share your views all you want, but other people are also free to share theirs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
