Newb introduction - waiting on ins

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm brand spankin new here and wanted to dive in and introduce myself. I originally went to my surgeon because he is known to perform the DS, but he sat with me for an hour straight talking me out of that surgery and towards the sleeve. Basically, he is adamant that I can achieve my goals with the sleeve, and that the DS would give me a poorer quality of life in the long run. He was brutally honest with me, and though it wasn't what I wanted to hear at the time, I really trust what he and everyone else is saying.

My info was submitted to insurance yesterday, and now I'm waiting for approval.

I've been on the pre-op journey since July (6 months of nutrition appts, etc), and have been researching the DS since then. I don't know much at all about the Sleeve, so here I am. This looks like the place to learn a lot.

So... I'm 33, and live in northwest Ohio with my husband and our daughter who will be 3 next month. I have 200 extra pounds to lose (BMI 57), not only for better health, but I want to be able to run and play with my daughter freely. I work in a lab, and can take breaks whenever I need, so snacking/eating/whatever should be ok. I'm a little concerned about getting my fluids in - it's a sterile lab, and kind of a pain to take all the lab gear off, change shoes, etc, to just come out to the break room for a sip of Water. I usually gulp down a glass every couple hours, but that will have to change.

Anyway, enough rambling. I'm excited to be here!

Welcome to the forum. You should find all the info you need here. I have been on here since Fall and love it. I'm on here everyday. It's nice to talk to people who are going through the same thing. Can't wait to hear about your journey!

Welcome, you will find a ton of great information on this site. I to was set on getting the DS, and my surgeon was only 1 of 2 Dr's here in NC that specialized in it. He told me my BMI wasn't high enough and he didn't think my insurance would approve it, but said I could do the 1st part, which is the sleeve because I wanted to keep my pyloric valve intact. I did a ton of research before deciding what surgery to get and alot of studies showed keeping the pyloric had better longterm success. Well come to find out my insurance did approve the DS, but by then I had read alot on the sleeve and decided that it would be sufficient for my weight loss and that it was less risky due to no rerouting of anything. I like the fact that my stomach works like it always has, it's just smaller. I was sleeved on 12/19 and follow up with my surgeon today. I saw my nut on 12/31 and was down 14 lbs. and 7". Last time I weighed I was down a total of 18 lbs. You will do great, just know the risks, and follow what your Dr. says. You will notice on here that every Dr. has their own set of rules as far as pre/post-op diets, restrictions, etc... I follow the rules I was given and it is working for me. Good luck on your journey to a healthier you!

And if you can get it done by the robot, I'd do it. I didn't have any pain or problems since surgery, and I really think the robot assisted surgery is the key. Not as much trauma on the muscles, etc.

Thanks everyone! Still a little overwhelmed with just how much information is on this site. So glad I found it.

Rybecca, I'm seeing Dr. Teel in Dayton, but I live around Findlay.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
