Done being choked by my band!

Recommended Posts

Hello all :) I'm a newbie here and I wanted to introduce myself. I was banded in 4/10 and did well for a while lost 68 pounds. My highest recorded weight was 286 and my lowest recorded weight it 209. Trouble started with my band and I was either to full and vomiting on a daily basis and terrified to eat or I wasn't full enough and had larger portions. That brings is to 2013 I decided to see if revision was and option and found out it was so I'm currently on my 5th visit of the 6 month supervised diet and due to have my psychiatric eval 2/8. Looking to be sleeved 4/13 so keep me in your thoughts!

Thanks for your post. When I went through my bariatric program last summer, it was to get a band. Insurance denied my "medical necessity" and I started doing my own research and learned about the sleeve.

I feel almost thankful to be self-paying for my sleeve vs. having insurance pay for a band. They seem like a complex device that are very troubling for many.

All the best as you complete your program and move towards a sleeve!

I am being sleeved on February 4.....am so excited I can barely sleep or think about anything else!

My pre-op diet will begin soon and be the "officical start" of my weight loss.

I'm blogging about all this and will have my surgery day story (with pics) there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
