popcorn...bread...cereal....what ya think

Recommended Posts

Just curious to see how everyone responds to popcorn...bread...cereal.

When you ate it?

How long you waited

How it felt after eating...

Haven't tried them yet. I'm 2 months out. With bread include wraps. Basically anything will help.

Look forward to getting hearing the replies.

Kayla

My nutritionist is keeping me off of bread and cereals for at least 4 months. I've had a couple of pieces of popcorn it was fine. I am off as many processed and white flour carbs as possible. Don't need them, as they were the biggest part of why I needed the surgery to begin with.

I haven't eaten popcorn and don't really care to.

I have had Cereal with milk one time and am not very interested in it anymore.

Sometimes I do have bread. I had crackers at around 3 weeks. I had bites of bread at around 5 weeks. Bread doesn't bother me, but I don't eat a lot of it at one time and I don't eat it very often.

I do keep a little bag of Goldfish cheese crackers around if I get a craving for something like that, but it usually only takes a few of them to satisfy that craving.

I have also had rice and potatoes a few times. Potatoes taste good but don't have enough nutritional value to allow them much space in my stomach. Rice even less so.

We really need to select more nutrient dense foods and quality Proteins. We eat such a small volume of food, we can't afford to put much crap into our systems.

Thanks ya'll. I haven't tried still in that stage of scared of food. I usually eat cheese, wheat cracker, deli turkey, chicken all ways but fried, green Beans, zucchini. Simple stuff I don't venture too far since my sleeve refused shrimp and got sick.

popcorn I never had much of other than the odd kernal or two when my wife had some. Whole grain bread I started having with some regularity at around four months as I needed the added complex carbs for better endurance. I've never been much for Cereal, but did add a little granola and almonds (maybe 10 g worth,) to my greek yogurt and berries to add a bit of crunch. Saltines were used some early on as they are good at soaking up stomach acid and settling minor stomach distress. I did have small amounts (what else with a sleeve?) of potatoes at times as they are about the most calorically efficient real food source of potassium around and that's a nutrient that isn't commonly supplemented to any useful degree.

I can eat anything I have the sleeve of steel! However, I try to avoid all the carbs I can which is the hardest part of the whole surgery for me.

I eat cereal every morning - I eat Special K (it's very high in protein). My NUT has no carb restrictions so it was on my plan 3 weeks out. The rest of the day is generally pure Protein eggs or meat. I also can eat (10 weeks out) extra thin multi grain double toasted bread. I don't and prob won't ever eat popcorn. But I could prob eat a handful now if I wanted.

I don't do well with bread and most carbs. They make me feel bad. However, popcorn is a slider for me so I have to avoid it. A few crackers out wonton chips work well. And I can eat a piece of toast occasionally. But I mainly avoid them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
