Has anyone else "cheated" on the full liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

I have three days left of the full liquids, and then I'll switch to pureed foods. However, today I had a lapse in judgment...I ate a small piece of roast beef (deli meat). I chewed it really well, but I felt so guilty afterwards! I don't feel sick or anything, but is there a chance I could have hurt my staple line? I'm freakin out a bit :-/

I think you'll be ok. When was your surgery? Mine was 12-31 and I've been eating soft foods for almost a week. Soup, mashers, cream of wheat and tonight..chili!

I doubt you have done any damage. Each doctor has their own timeline for the different stages of the diet. I left the hospital on soft/pureed foods.

I doubt you did damage, but no i didn't cheat. The diet is only a few weeks of your whole life. You can do it.

I'm sure you'll be fine. Having said that you did skip ahead quite a bit! :)

I know what it's like, you just want to bite something.

Do your best to stick to it, and maybe if you were going to skip ahead it should have been a puree / mashed something.

Good luck!

I jumped a few days by having a few tablespoons of liquidy mash potatoes and oatmeal. I also jumped ahead last week once --I had a soft boiled egg that I left in too long and it came out like soft HARD boiled egg. I took a few fast small bites and OMG.... I was in immediate pain. PAIN. It felt like I was having a heart attack. I just kept walking around in a state of semi-panic waiting for it to pass. I believe it happened because the egg and especially the egg yolk was way too dry.

I was only on full liquids for 1 day. My surgeon doesn't think it necessary. I had no problems eating soft foods by day 2 and then regular food on day 14.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
