breastfeeding with the band?

Recommended Posts

I have a question for the women here that have had a baby with the band. Have any of you breastfed with the band? If so, how long was it before you decided to have your band adjusted again? I currently am half filled but I am breasfeeding my daughter right now. I am coming upon 6 weeks and was just wondering if you were able to sustain enough in your system to continue breastfeeding if you were at full restriction. Not sure if I should wait or go for it. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

seems to me if you can get enough liquid in you should be just fine--I nursed 3 children for 2 yrs each but not with a band--if you eat good food like you are supposed to with the band, and get losts of liquids you should do great and so will your baby...good luck and congrats on the new babe

I agree, plenty of Water and foods that you can eat easily. And if you need to, I'm not generally an advocate of Protein Shakes but you can always add a shake or two per day to keep your calorie levels and nutrition levels adequate.

And your Vitamins of course, keep those up.

My son is 6 months and I breast feed for 3 with no problem and I had a fill 6 weeks after he was born. I use to suppement some of my meals with the Ensure (for pregnant and nursing mothers) drinks just to make sure that I had enough Vitamins.< /p>

The only time I've noticed breastfeeding really drained me and I needed to eat more was after about 10 months or so, before they were really eating solid foods in large quanities but needing over a litre of milk a day. That was a hard period, I really had to eat to keep it up, and after about 12 months, once they were eating well 3 meals a day, their milk consumption dropped right down and it was easy for the 9 months or so after that that I continued with each of my 3.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
