Lisa99 1 Posted November 2, 2006 I've had enough of the demon scales! I realized this morning that I was falling back into my old addictive ways of obsessing about my weight...this happens every time I'm on a "diet". Every day starts something like this...get up, get on the scale, if weight is up feel depressed and a failure, if the weight is down, euphoria. I know it is not logical and I know that there are fluctuations, but the lapband was about taking control of my life. It's not a diet and it's not short term, so starting today I will not let the scales rule me. I've put them on a very high shelf in the garage and will only get them out one day each month when I have to weigh and call the doc with my progress. I do have goals though: my long-term goals are to comfortably wear a size 8, be able to ride a bicycle for 50 miles and to be in good enough shape to be able to go trekking on the Inca trail in Peru by my 46th birthday. Thanks for listening...I really missed you guys while the server was down!
mykidsrock 0 Posted November 2, 2006 I know exactly how you feel! scales are the devil and they can make or break your day before it even starts! I have developed a bad habit of weighing myself daily rather than weekly...and of course, its a crap shoot as to whether my weight is up or down. I have had to buy new jeans and can feel my body taking on a different shape even though the weight is not moving very quickly. I'm with you...I am setting new goals that place less emphasis on weight and more on what I want to achieve. You are an inspiration! Thanks for the food for thought! NewSho 20 Posted November 2, 2006 I'm with you! I used to be a slave to the scale but it used to affect my whole day, just by what I weighed that morning. Finally my WLS doc made me get rid of it - he told me to just weigh at his office and not worry about daily up's and down's. So now I realize - scale numbers don't mean anything to me, but clothing sizes do. In getting near goal, I've gone from wearing a Size 22W ( or a 22W/24W) to an easy 12. (Which looks great on me since I'm a tall, curvy type of chick. I always look 1-to-2 sizes smaller in person, than the size I wear. Unfortunately this ability could have helped to delude myself about my weight - but the mirror never lies! ) However, when I was larger, I dreamed of being a Size 14. That's when I knew I'd could just shop in normal Misses departments instead of the "Womens' Dept." or the "Plus Sizes" area. So a Size 14 used to be my first goal size. Now I'm thinking I might have to put my soon-to-be-too-baggy Size 14's away (along with those 16's, 18's, 20's, 22's, and 24's that I've already gotten rid of thru donation or eBay). Now I'm ambitious: I want to get of those 14's, move out of 12's and get into a Size 9/10. Once I'm officially a Junior size 9/10, then I'll think I've accomplished something. :clap2: Now as a 30(mumble)Something, I know I would look absolutely traffic-stopping good in a solid Size 9/10. Hopefully my body co-operates...I plan on stimulating the retail economy with my shopping if I lose some weight and get plastic surgery.

I would love to do the rtail when I lose weight also! I figure if I was able to do those two weighing 225, imagine what I can do when I am 150!
Barry 0 Posted November 3, 2006 The scale is not our friend, being confident in knowing that we're doing the right things and staying the course to an ultimate reward is what we should be looking at everyday. The only true way to evaluate my weight loss is when I put on clothes that used to be tight and now aren't that tight. No scale in the world can make you feel that good. Fauxnaif 1 Posted November 3, 2006 May I join you??? I still want to lose maybe 15 more and it is getting very, very, very slow. Really, I don't care how much I weigh; I want to be able to wear a 10 in jeans. I'm buying a pair for inspiration! I'm going scaleless, too!!!
Lisa99 1 Posted November 3, 2006 Of course you may join! I feel so incredibly liberated this morning...no scales in sight!! ...and thank heavens for a fill! I got my first one yesterday. The fleuro picture shows the restriction opening to be about the size of a drinking straw (I have the 4cc band so it looks like the first fill will be effective). Seeing that picture really helped me understand why it is so important to chew chew chew!
Pinkylee 7 Posted November 3, 2006 Lisa99 THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I was discouraged to see the same number this am that I've seen for 3 weeks despite trying really hard to lose the weight. I was even considering changing my exercise routine to walking for fear I might be building too much "heavy" muscle. Duh! I'm in a size 16 jean--all brands. Size 16 jeans have been a top goal since I was banded. It hardly seemed a victory with the scales stuck at 202. I can almost taste onderland and I let it get the best of me. NO MORE A SLAVE TO THE SCALE! Onderland will be nice, but not as nice as the next smaller size.
Lisa99 1 Posted November 3, 2006 Welcome to the other side And congrats on reaching your jean size goal!!!! PLEASE don't stop adding muscle, unless of course you're starting to look like Arnold S. Every pound of muscle burns 50 calories/day, but a pound of fat is inert and doesn't burn calories. Also muscle is smaller in mass than fat, so if you're adding muscle that's why the scale shows no weight loss but clothes fit looser!!
