T'was the night before surgery, and I got my period

Recommended Posts

Hi sleevers. This question is for the ladies. Surgery is tomorrow afternoon, and I got my period today. The surgeon's office told me it is not a problem, but how do they deal with it during surgery? Am I allowed to wear a tampon during surgery? I will be asking that question tomorrow, of course, but wondering what others' experiences have been. My periods aren't "light" if you know what I mean (there's an ablation in my future). At least the pain meds will take away the horrible cramps I'm having right now and will probably have tomorrow.

I don't think tampons are ok. You'll get the oh-so-lovely (but comfy!) mesh panties and the hospital pads. If you've ever had a baby, you'll know what I'm talking about!

LOL I feel bad for the nurse that has to do your catheter :) :)

Sorry though, I was lucky and mine waited till the day AFTER surgery.

That truly stinks!! I don't know about a tampon but I'm thinking like lucky8mb1 that you will have to wear the post birth stuff which is like the pad of all pads. Good luck!

The same thing happened to me. But it was just begining and it was light. They told me to take off all of my clothes. I'm sure it happens allot, especially with how nervous we are before surgery date.

Wish a brief period was the least of my problem. For the last year and a half I have had a period per se 24/7. I have fibroids and about every six months I end up in the hospital hemorging. Just got out Saturday with my third D n C. Hence the decision for VGS as my doctor doesn't want to operate until I can loose 100 lbs. Keeping my fingers crossed I can hear something from the clinic before I go in to see him Thursday.

I started on the morning of surgery. Luckily my surgeon doesn't use catheters. But they would not let me use a tampon. They put a chucks under me and a huge pad. I got to put a tampon in as soon as I got to my hospital room. I was mortified

This is a very common thing to happen. I started the morning of surgery and just told the nurses about it. It isn't like its going to go away to make things easier for you :(

Pads help.

I started the day of surgery. I had to wear a pad and those blood thinner shots made me bleed even more. I also had to ask for assistance when it came to changing my pad because I was hooked up to a lot of stuff. Also being in pain and not being able to wipe properly sucked so bad and the toilet was a mess. Thank goodness I didn't have a roommate because the bathroom was disgusting :/ The nurses were very understanding and professional.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
