orthoman 114 Posted January 7, 2013 I'm now 10 days out from surgery, started off at 257.5 lbs, and currently I'm only down about 11 pounds (246.4) - I'm 5'10". I must admit that adhering to this Liquid Protein diet is really, really getting me down. And I have absolutely no energy today at all. And with all that I am wondering what the heck I did to myself. I know, I know, everyone on here goes through that a little bit, and it helps knowing that, but sometimes I don't know how in the heck Im going to get through this next week at work feeling like I do right now. This all makes me wish I could crawl into a cave and hibernate for a month or two! It probably does not help that I was a Diet coke addict prior to surgery, and I guarantee that I am suffering from caffeine withdrawals to boot. My doc says that I can have coffee or tea, but I never liked either one of those as much as I did my Diet Cokes. Anyways, this is a sucky day. I hope it gets better. Thanks for letting me vent. JerseyGirl68 1,172 Posted January 7, 2013 I'm so sorry you're having a tough day. But 11 pounds in 10 days is pretty good! Have you tried powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup? It has 22gm of Protein in 6-8 oz not too bad. If you're on full liquids can you have yogurt or sugar free pudding to break up the monotony? Vent when you need, it will help make these last few days of liquids go quicker. You can do this! Good luck! 1 Ballermom reacted to this
orthoman 114 Posted January 7, 2013 I appreciate that very much - thank God for this forum where you can talk to so many people who have been through this! For most surgeries, including the ones that I do for people, I'm afraid patients often kind of suffer in silence without the great benefit of communicating with so many other people with experience! Surgeons and doctors are great, but they have one crucial piece of information missing from their repetoire - they have not actually had the surgery that they did on you, and that's a big information gap! Also one more thing - does anyone else suddenly develop "cold nature" after surgery? I have been a hot-natured person all my life, even when I was thin. When I was a baby my parents said that I would always kick the covers off, even in the winter. I have always been a person who sweats at the slightest provocation. Now, I can't get warm! I'm wearing jackets inside the house all the time. It's really strange.
clk 3,519 Posted January 7, 2013 Everything sounds perfectly normal - all the way to the frustration with the liquid diet and lack of energy. It improves rapidly as you get to the point where you can increase your Protein intake and get enough fluids each day. I went from always sweating to freezing within a week of surgery, even without losing much weight in that time frame. It gets better but I no longer wander around without a jacket on in the winter, that's for sure. Caffeine withdrawal and losing the food crutch that we often don't even realize we're leaning on is a challenge and will remain one in the early stages of your journey. You can and will overcome this. And just to prepare you, once you're on mushies you're likely to experience frustration all over again when you realize that you can only eat two or three bites before feeling full. This entire part of the process passes far more quickly than you think it will and before you know it you'll be several months out giving advice and support to people in exactly the spot you're in now. Good luck, and congrats on your new sleeve, ~Cheri 1 Ballermom reacted to this

SRHWAD 12 Posted January 8, 2013 I had my surgery on a Tuesday and went back to work the following Monday. Everyday the 1st week back at work as soon as 2pm came around I could barely keep my eyes open. I think the surgery takes a lot out of you...it will get better.
