Seriously - worried- I have black stool and cannot get a car from my surgeon not sure if I should go to the ER -- doc office ticks me off -- it's all out of the blue- and my family doc is on vacation- hope it isn't serious! Uggghh

Id hit up an urgent care. Could be a sign of upper gi bleeding. Is there a horrible smell to go with it?

Did you take any Pepto-Bismol or a larger than usual quantity of Iron?

bismouth turns stool black. if it is not smelly, or turns the Water dark red, there isn't anything I am aware of, but I am NOT a doctor.

I had the same issues post-op, my Dr. indicated it was caused by leftover blood or drainage from the surgery. Mine lasted for at least 2 months but now I'm back to normal.

Glad I found this post cause I'm havin the same thing. Only difference is I love Pepto and I take it whenever my stomach is upset. So big relief for me but I'll quit taking it for a while and see if that makes a difference because last week my stool was normal then the change to dark worried me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
