Hair loss with band, vs. sleeve

Recommended Posts

I didn't experience a significant amount of Hair loss after my lapband surgery. (I lost over 100 lbs in the first year.) I'm wondering for those who have had both surgeries, was the hair loss the same with both, or was it worse with the sleeve.

Same with me. No significant Hair loss with the band...haven't had the sleeve surgergy yet, so I can't answer your question.

I am eager to hear what others say.

Well you pose a great question. With the lapband I was certainly never so concerned with the amount of Protein I consumed and I had no Hair loss. I am only 17 weeks with the sleeve and only time will tell.

I didn't have the band but with the sleeve I lost a lot of hair and lost it one month after surgery. I was so scared and so what I did was I didn't wash daily (just wet and conditioned it, luckily I have dry curly hair) I used fructise for falling hair and to me that help wonders!!!! Run and get it !!!! I also took Biotin the highest amount possible in a dose and I started it before surgery. Now im in 5th month and it finally stopped, Hallelujah !!!! What a relief. Not many people noticed it because the curly hair was easy to cover up the thinning but now its looking good and I feel so relieved. Oh and of course focus on the Protein which is something I still have not mastered!!!!

Band - was not instructed to eat high Protein, no Vitamins. I lost 30 pounds the first month and then a hard fought 40 pounds over the next 11 months. No hair loss.

Sleeve - high Protein, followed instructions, Vitamins etc. I lost 130# in a year. Massive Hair loss.< /p>

Even so, sleeve is sooo much better!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
