Stalled maybe even gaining 4 weeks out

Recommended Posts

I was 219 when I started I am now 197.6 I was at 196 the sat before New Years. How can I possibly have gained 2 almost 2lbs. I have not been getting all my Water. It's still uncomfortable to drink a lot. I have not had any Protein. I will start again tomorrow. I barely eat about 700 Cals a day. I don't understand. Is it possible that I will not lose More? Did anyone else go through this? I'm really upset.

This is a common stall called the "three week stall" Don't freak, your weight will come down after a while. At 2 1/2 weeks I had a 4 week stall. You are not eating enough to gain weight, so deep breath, things will be fine. Get your Protein in, and sip sip sip. You need your Water. Do not let yourself get dehydrated or you will have to go to the emergency room! It also makes you feel horrible. Logically you have to know you will not stay the same and stop losing forever. Come on girl! You will be fine!

Thank you but I can't help but feel its my fault. I picked at some things I shouldn't have but not nearly even close to before. I have been very active walking I don't eat much but maybe not the right things. I just feel like a failure. Like I have no willpower.

Thank you. They say it goes Away but I'm over here thinking Really I have to diet? If I could do that I wouldn't have had this surgery. Plus I only eat like a bird already. I can't do wxtre exercise either. So frustrated.

Thank you for this thread! I am 4 1/2 weeks out and have went up 1.5 pounds about a week ago and now the scale won't budge. I was feeling very depressed about it.

Really, Im not kidding, This is pretty common. Even if you were eating 1200a day, it is not causing you to stall. Search "3 week stall". The worry is not needed... You ARE "eating like a bird",its your body adjusting to the surgery and rapid weight loss....taking a breath, It probably thinks you were injured and starving! Many have gone through this and gone on to losing massive amounts of weight. Just follow your Drs plan. Also, If you haven't started already, measure as well, you may well be losing inches. I went through MANY stalls over the first 12 months... stalls that lasted weeks. It is common for the body to do this. Just keep up the good work and it will come off.

In my experience... I'll be 10 weeks out tomorrow... is I lost a bunch in the first two weeks... then in the next couple of weeks my loss was maybe 1-2 pounds a week... which I was frustrated because I thought it would be more a week. I've never stalled, thank god, but 1-2 pounds a week was kind of frustrating as I had thought it would be much more. BUT then I started to eat a bit more than usual and started walking and lo and behold I was losing around 3 pounds a week. I still struggle with getting all my Water in a day and the reccommened Protein, but the merit to this story is... I thought "I'm barely eating 600 calories, why aren't I losing more weight???" Then I eat more and BAM! the weight starts coming off. So I think, my body, was telling me that it was going to hang on to everything it could because it needed it, so when I started to eat just a bit more, it was like "ok, I let go". LOL!

So hang in there!!!! Experiment with eating... Drinking Water and getting Protein in should be your #1 concern...

It seems like my weight always goes up a few pounds right before I lose. I've also had several frustrating stalls, but overall down 56 lbs in 14 weeks. As long as on average the scale goes down more than up I'm happy.

Also.....it isn't a race. It is a lifetime transformation, not instant gratification.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
