Need a little help!

Recommended Posts

I was 6 months out on Dec. 25th, 2012. I have had a very easy road. Unfortunatly I have allowed myself to have the simple carbs again( goldfish, bread, ritz crackers). I'm trying to gain control before I lose control. I started training to run a 5k in march and my Nut said I neede more carbs for the energy. I don't think she meant this kind! Anyway, have you heard of Paleo diet or any other plan that uses low carb? Carbs are allowed in my plan its just that it is triggering old behaviors. Any advice you have is greatly appreciated. How long were you on a PPI if any?

Thanks!

Kelley

I stayed on the PPI six months.

For the carb thing, eat on a schedule and include whole grains, veggies, and fruits for your carbs. Skip the white stuff and sugar till you get your cravings under control and feel, like you are in charge. Some can never go back to them (eggface still doesn't do white carbs or sugar).

I track what I eat and weigh every morning. Tracking can be as simple as a note in your purse. For me, I'm at home most of the time so I use a small white board on the fridge door. Make sure you are getting your fluids in too. Leaves less room for junk once you get the recommendations down.

For better carbs I do enjoy the 100% whole wheat bread, double Fiber muffins (120 calories for a whole muffin), oatmeal, brown rice, and sweet potatoes.

Oh my dear, how i can relate! I let myself "go" for the past 2 years. I thought for sure I was invincible but guess what? I am not. I gained weight, not a horrible amount but enough (25 lbs). Now I had to get a grip on it before it really got out control. I started Atkins with net carbs of 20g a day. It is so hard. I've been on it now for 1 1/2 weeks and as of today have finally gone into carb withdrawal. It is horrible. I can only relate how a addict to drugs or alcohol must feel. I was doing everything possible to avoid eating today. I had my meals as normal and stuck to the diet. This evening i was going nuts, ready to even take medication to dull the discomfort. But I didn't, I did take some benedryl because i know if i don't i'll be tossing and turning all night thinking about chocolate, crackers, cheesecake and other evil things. I then got onto the computer to keep my hands busy and put on a really good movie. It's so hard, but if i can do this so can you! Together we can overcome this monster and be victorious in the end! Thanks for listening.

There are some great threads on binge behavior and grazing right now.

I think the problem isn't carbs...it's the KIND of carbs. I think we need a more balanced diet to feel good mentally and physically, but I acknowledge that many people find that white flour and sugar are huge triggers for them.

Detox, first and foremost: cut the crap choices out. :) If you're already doing a very low carb diet (with the exception of grazing on poor carb choices) try incorporating more of the good quality carbs into your diet to see if that can give you a sense of control and curb your desire to graze on those lesser quality foods.

You are absolutely not alone in this. Again - there are SO many good threads full of people struggling with the same issue out there right now. I think it's important to not just think of your goal weight as the final goal. Consider how you'll stay there, at that weight, in maintenance for the long haul. Can you low carb it forever? If you can and you respond well to that, by all means, go for it. But if you think it will be a struggle, it's worth struggling and putting effort into a more moderate approach now, by addressing grazing/emotional/boredom eating behaviors so you can stop them once and for all.

Best of luck - it's not easy for any of us, but you can overcome this.

Thanks Cheri! It is the white carbs that get me into my addict mode. I turn into a some sugar monster always wanting more!! I'm detoxing then going back to my good carbs. I can not do low/no carb. Too many bad migranes and lethargy. I just let myself fall back into old habits over christmas and it's slowing getting worse. Btw, congrats on pregnancy.

Kelley :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
