HI chocolate - I remember years ago I was seeing a Dr and he commented that I was at 28 yo 210 lbs and i should lose weight. Well, shortly after that I went with a friend to a WW meeting and wow it worked like a miracle for me. I worked my ass off for 10 months and got down to 138. The next year I went in to my appt so happy. I was so ready to get my high five. He completes the whole exam and then asks if I had anythign else I wanted to talk to him about. I said well I did lose 80lbs since I saw you last. He flipped back through my chart and said...wow you have.

LOL, yes I was mad. They don't even bother to review even quickly the stats of you last visit.

My Pcp helped me with my first Migraine headache, but from then he has been Useless.

Even my Surgeon told me find some one else at their hospital. My doctor has never ran one test on me and my lasted problem is probably gonna cost me time off from work unpaid. It could get awkward being off work if i I need a surgery before my WLS. Don't know how to juggle that?

Getting time of for both without seriously delaying the WLS. Fmla? Weight loss surgery looking like elective surgery.

If just the WLS I m ok with that.

then later have an elective WLS because since now I'm approved waiting on the Approval letter. Yea

If my PCP listened to me could had the first problem fixed months ago.

Luckily I have a great Bariatric program some where else!

So there are plans that don't require you to visit your PCP for 3 months or a dietitian for 3 or 6 months! My surgeon never said I had to do either but reading all the forums/blogs, there seems to be a common theme....

I'll be done with all of my appointments by 1/14. I hope to schedule surgery soon after.

My isurance does not require a 3/6 month diet plan or history of weight. I have Anthem BCBS of Virginia.

My old pcp was crazy! I went to her and told her i was starting the process and she was going to have to write a letter of approval and she basically point blank said she wouldnt. She wanted me to keep a food journal and come see her every 2 weeks for 6 months and then decide if i needed surgery. I've been there and done that, tried every diet under the sun. Safe to say i didn't go back 2 weeks later, I found a new pcp that wants me to have the surgery done by march at the latest!

Not knowing any more history, if this were first contact on the topic of WLS, I'd say it's not completely unreasonable. Every 2 weeks might be excessive... monthly would probably suffice, but not completely unreasonable.

When I first started seeing my PCP, I didn't specifically bring up surgery as an option, but I was wanting to know, medically, what would be some options. He just said eat smaller portions, exercise etc. The usual. But after 4+ years of history, inclining weight and declining health, when I bought it up in the Fall, surgery was more of a topic to discuss and explore.

glad that you stood up for yourself. Find a new one there are many good Dr's out there. Heck My pcp doesn't even know yet but I went to Mexico. My obgyn for years has been advising me to look into getting WLS.

It was first contact with her. The doc I had been seeing moved but she works for the same clinic and had my records of dieting and weight loss attempts for over two years. Over the two year period with the other doctor we had been working towards surgery but she just completely dismissed it without question. It was the first time she had met me and she assumed I was using it as a miracle cure and never once asked why I wanted to do it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
