Losing 85% of your stomach 4ever

Recommended Posts

So glad to hear responses I am also scheduled for Oct 13th, and my primary care, my trainer and exhusband all have tried to talk me out of it and yes I can go down I weight on diet and follow it but I gain back to easily and have a hard time maintaining. So I know I can do it and the sleeve will be the tool to get me there I just know with weight loss meds and diet I plateaued...then I stopped and gain some back so getting the sleeve because I didn't get to goal and dieting alone won't help. I have a bad knee injury which stopped me from exercising regularly.

The reality is the harm we do to our bodies at this weight doesn't give us the luxury of waiting until something better comes along. My mother is in end stage renal disease (diabetes) and my father had a double knee replacement.

Hey I'm wondering how anyone feels about losing so much stomach. What if someday SOON doctors come out with another surgery and its much better then VSG where they won't have to remove 85 % of your stomach? I'm scared of feeling like OMG I could've waited , why didn't they say something about it? Why ? Why? Why? I'm just wondering because medicine is always advancing and coming. Out with new things and I wouldn't want to regret MY VSG . Thanks

. What if you get diabetes, cancer, heart disease, immobility, depression because of where you are now? I thought the same thing. Truthfully, I was up to 435 at my highest weight and waited 20 years for something better. At the time, I was 300 lbs. I didn't want to be rerouted, but with the VSG I am getting my life back. Just weigh your options carefully. I am 339.6 and three months out from 408.

Every bit of time spent waiting is another bit of time being obese. I am thrilled it's gone. And if they invent something "better" tomorrow I'm still fine with my choice. It worked. And I will live the rest of my life happy and healthy with a smaller stomach. People have had gastrectomies for decades for stomach cancer and lived full lives afterwards. So mine was done for a different reason, I am still happy and healthy.

It's funny you say that about gastrectomies. I've heard that's how this surgery started for weight loss. Someone was like "Wait a minute? You mean when we cut out 85% of someone's stomach, they lose weight?? Who'd a thunk it?!"

You know what the weird thing is now about VSG surgery?

That at 13 months post-op I no longer think it's weird to have a smaller-than-normal stomach. Now, it just feels normal to me.

Some people who have 100% of their stomachs also eat like we now eat. Some are diabetics who are managing their disease well. Some are hypoglycemic. Some are actresses and models, which is funny, but I'm not kidding ;). Some are long-time slim people I know and have known for years.

Now I eat a normal amount of food / calories -- 1700/day. I never ate like this before, and it feels so great!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
