Ok so I feel like I'm trying to stall the process from fear of failing I guess. I've been researching surgery for over 2 years now and finally took the next step, found a surgeon and a doctor that wants me to have the surgery done. I actually have my psychological evaluation the 14th of this month. I guess I'm just afraid of what's to come. I'm 22 years old and have been overweight my entire life. I have never seem myself skinny or even close to a normal size other than pictures from when I was 2 or 3 years old. I'm excited to have the surgery but I guess since I don't know what to expect I'm fearing the unexpected. Maybe I'm just freaking myself out over nothing but it's a scary thought that 6 months or a year from now I'm going to be a completely different person when I look in the mirror. My family is pretty much split down the middle as support. My dad has been pushing me to do this for a while but my mom is skeptical because she thinks I'm going to change and be a different person all together. It just feels like it's happening so fast. I went to see my new pcp and she wants to try to have everything sent in to have the surgery done by the end of February or early in March. I know this is the best thing for me I'm just freaking myself out and need someone to bring me back down to earth. Lol

You are making a good decision. It is about living in a more healthy, active, comfortable, and confident way. You will have doubts for a while. I remember sitting in pre-op room with my hubby and crying because I was taking a risk having surgery for something that was "optional". I have children and I kept thinking what if something went wrong. Day 2 post surgery, I felt pretty yucky and thought again, "Why did I do this to myself?" Here I am almost 4 weeks out and feel so positive about my decision. I am down 22 pounds. food does not control me, rather I control it. I am actually excited to weigh myself and bought a scale so I could weigh in daily - who would have thunk? Focus on the long term goal. You will be different but in a great way. Good luck! Stay positive!

It is worth it.... The only people I found that had a problem with my surgery were others who were also fat and didn't have the courage to have the surgery..... I would have the surgery again in a heartbeat..... It is a life changing experience in a good way. You have no idea what you are missing until you start shedding those pounds and can do things you never thought you could do..... Go for it and good luck!!!!!!!

They haven't called me stupid yet but they have tried to talk me out of it. I think her problem is she can't have the surgery done and expects everyone else to suffer because of it

I did the same. Years before my kids I wanted the lap band and was in the process but then I said I will stall to have kids and I wont gain much weight and start again. 50lbs heavier lapband wasnt going to cut it and my decision changed. I decieded that I and only I need to take control of my life and weight. I wasnt motivated anymore to jump on the treadmill or dance run or even walk. In the mean time of a solid decision I gained more weight. I had a mix mother on board and father wasnt. Husband loved me no matter what. Every time I go over any inlaws I felt all convos was about my weight (some were) I took a look at fat pictures of me and I said oh heck no. I never wanted to be 300lbs woman mother of 2. So my inspiration are my kids. I have high self esteem young or old fat or slim. Do what you want, you are the only person who you have to answer to or look in the mirror, good luck!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
