December Sleevers and Veterans: How many calories 2 weeks post-op?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

Can you guys share about how many calories you're getting in about 2 weeks post-op? Or if you're past this stage can you remember about how many you were getting at that stage?

I'm now averaging probably 500-800 daily-- is this too much? My post-op instructions do not mention calories at all. They do say that if you do not feel like eating, don't eat, just concentrate on liquids and Protein and Vitamins.< /p>

According to my NUTs instructions: you are right on track with the calories.

I'm a week post op and that's what I average. I think it's more about getting the Protein than the calories.

I was getting in 800-1000, which is on the high side of what we typically see - many will struggle to get 5-600 in at that point, but it all depends upon how well things are going through. I had no problem with any of the liquids or soft things like yogurts and puddings, and with things like Soups or soft meats like tuna (doc had already added veg to the diet by that time.) On the other hand, my wife, when she went through this a few years ago, could barely get in her nominal stomach capacity of liquids like Protein Shakes in at one sitting. so there can be a wide variation in how we progress. It's all something of an individual exploration at this time.

Mine was 300-400 calories /day at 2 weeks. Barely able to take in the 3 125 calorie shakes.< /p>

Dana-if you are losing, do what you are doing. I had started a stall so asked a similar question and so many people responded with lower calories than I was. I was similar to you with calorie count and I was getting in all my Protein and Water. I panicked and cut back because I thought I was too high and I think it prolonged the stall. I went back to my prior calorie count and poof, started dropping again. Everyone is well intentioned, but our bodies, requirements, and tolerances are different. Focus on protein and water goals your dr gave you.

At two weeks out I didn't even look at the calories - I focused on making sure that I was healing and resting.

Follow your surgeon's instructions and you will be fine. I started counting cals around the 4 -6 week mark when I had introduced solid food and was comfortable.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
