Anyone have Insomnia Post Op?

Recommended Posts

So glad someone posted my exact issue! For one, it takes me forever to fall asleep (my mind races with thoughts) and I have the craziest dreams. I will wake up from the dream and then my mind races again keeping me up for an hour or so. At first I thought it was pain meds but I stopped those two days after surgery. Both are new issues to me after surgery. I was sleeved April 3rd.

So guys..there is a major shock to your system, followed by a tidal wave of hormones from stored fat, not to mention mental changes you deal with like hunger issues etc.. Is it any wonder that sleep patterns would change?!

I found myself having bouts of insomnia until I really ramped up the working out in week 6. Hitting the gym five days a week and sleepy time tea have helped.

Its insane. I'm up till 3-4 am' date=' and the crazy thing is I'm not even super tired when I wake at 7. Whats up with that? Reduce your calories, reduce sleep? Anyone else, or am I the only weirdo?[/quote']

Ive got that same problem happening

You are definately not alone. I was sleeved on April 4th and I have slept horribly. It takes me forever to fall asleep and I wake up on and off all night. I had ambien that I was prescribed previously but never took. I asked my surgeon and he said it was alright to take. I took half a pill last night, and although I fell asleep fast I didn't stay that way. I am going to try a whole pill tonight. I hope it gets better!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
