I need help getting back on track

Recommended Posts

Hi I am two years post sleeve and lost 70kg post surgery but now I have gained back half the weight I lost very depressed at the moment I am constantly grazing all the time can't seem to control the hunger even when I am physically full my mind is still hungery so I have decided to bite the bullet and just go cold turkey on Protein shakes for two weeks like I was pre sleeve surgery in the hopes of kick starting healthy eating once again anyone else tried this and did it work for them/

Good choice.

hi again I am in Qld Australia and I haven't heard of any of the Protein Shakes or powdered Peanut Butter but I will try and source these and give them a go really I don,t have a problem with the shakes just the first week after that I could probably live on them for life the dietitian told me to go back to solid foods but I know of people who have continued on with shakes and Vitamins as their only diet and they are healthy and correct weight think I made a mistake listening to the dietitian as once I was eating""normally" the weight came back seriously considering a liquid diet as a lifestyle I can drink Optifast and optislim and cannot see the benefits in solid food diets when its just a quick slide back to obesity gonna get back on track thanks for the support!

I'm an Aussie and in Brisbane

If you're after a pleasant shake try the iso whey, I have it in banana flavour and really like it because its not sickly. Good Price and Chemist Warehouse have it on special for $35 every other month.

Were you using a tracker while eating food again? If not you could have been overdo-ing it and this may be why you put on. I don't think a dietician or nutritionist would recommend you stay on Optifast or anything, you need to be eating food and living healthy, saying this, I never seen a dietician pre-op, it wasn't mandatory and I really felt I didn't need to at the time. I still have one shake a day and eat food the other meals, I have been mostly keeping to between 600 - 800 calories a day, plus burn 400 - 500 calories exercising.

Carbs are definitely evil and trying to eliminate the refined type is a good idea, with me they just make me crave more. I have recently upped my Water to 3.6 litres and have noticed a huge difference in weight loss.

I suggest using the tracker and playing around with the amounts of Proteins, carbs etc, its a huge game and not the same for most people, were all different

I agree about the carbs. I have been falling into old bad habits. When I cut out carbs again, I get back on track. Its

Hey guys - Im in Canberra!

Ive only gone down 25kgs since June (i mean yay or whatever). Anyway. Thinking of revisiting Optifast for a week or 2 everynow and then to kick start?

Thoughts?

I might try the Iso whey as well :)

Ive heard optifast is the best one because its nutritionlly complete, where as the others (tony ferguson etc) are only aimed at 1-2 meals a day so are full of sugar and other rubbish (I checked this too) - so im nervous about using these other ones. hmm.

I am just beginning but your plan sounds like something i would have resorted to back in my pre op days. Why not just go back to eating on plan? Protein first, leave off the carbs, no Water before and after eating, etc. Seems like you are looking for a short cut and from experience, we all know there are no short cuts and many times we end up in worse shape. Of course, you need to do what you need to do for you, so if Optifast is it, i wish you the best.

It's true, I'm a lover of shortcuts!

Hmmmm I just thought of it as a good kick start back into eating on plan - I keep going back to eating on plan and then someone has a morning tea, one of my flatmate buys some Cadbury favourites to share and it just goes downhill. One extreme to the other. I've never been able to eat in moderation!

I'm also a slave to carbs!

Sigh. I'll try opti for a week cos I've already bought it, then hopefully get back into it!

I keep getting excercise crazy to the extent where my B12 and Iron is shot and I need to get shots to get it back to normal, then I go into a slump where I'm too scared to do anything or ill get low everything again! Really need to short my **** out! Hahha.

Ill get there, even if its a million times slower then most others

:)

ThAnks :) I was on mfp but I stopped using it because I was beating myself up for eating too much sugar (like an apple), so I was teaching myself the wrong lesson :)

Now tracking with weight watchers! I do think mfp is Fab thou for people who enjoy fruit and veg! Me, not so much!

Up date! So I have gotten back on track and I'm happily of my chips kick. I have lost quite a bit since this post. I'm now past my goal of 150 and at 147!

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using VST

Great job!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
