Hello!

I'm scheduled for my VSG in MX on Monday, 1/21 and will be flying back to the states on Thursday, 1/24. I have an office job and have only scheduled the week of 1/21 off.

My question is...How long did YOU take off after surgery?

Thanks in advance!

-Alan

I took off 2 1/2 weeks, but could have gone back to work after 1 1/2. After about the 5th day after surgery, I felt fine. I just went back this Wednesday night (I work 3rd shift).

I had 3 weeks off but only because I was still on maternity leave. Hopefully you'll have a smooth recovery and won't be that sore. You'll probably have to get up and walk every hour or so. Sitting for long periods will make you stiff. Good luck!

I had my surgery 12/19, and I'm going back 1/14. I would have probably gone back 1/7, but I got a post op infection, so I want to wait for that to heal fully, first.

I was off for 2 weeks after surgery and while I wasn't in pain or nauseuous, my energy was absolutely zapped and it took a while to get it back. I was very happy to have taken the time I did off for my body to recover and adjust some before going back to work.

I have a desk job and took three weeks off. I'm glad I did. I had really foul liquid bowel movements for the entire second and third weeks, and was scared to death to go back to work. However and fortunately, the liquid movements stopped just before I returned to work! There is no restroom on my floor at work, and I would have been in serious trouble!!

I had my surgery on 10/2/12 and was back at work on 10/7/12 ... the first day or two I was exhausted and still a little sore, but I also have a desk job, so I was fine.

I took one week + one day off work, but I wish I had taken two weeks. I was very fatigued even though I had no pain or discomfort, and I found I had to go home and take a 2 hour nap between my morning work and my afternoon work! I averaged 6 hours of work per day that second week, like this: work 8 to 11 am, nap 11:30 to 1:30, work 2 to 5 pm!

Third week, the fatigue had really resolved. Like I said, the only problem was the FATIGUE :)

Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
