I had my surgery done 8/23/2013. So far I have lost 67lbs and am so excited. At first the only way I could tell I was losing weight is only by my pant size and by people telling me. Sometimes I was not sure if ppl just say that you look like you have lost weight just to be nice. I still get frustrated at myself when its still hard to find pants and am a size 16 now and I was 24. This surgery was hard at first I was out of work for a month. I cried and was in pain and had regreted my decision. I know now that I would do it all over again. I have noticed that I have been happier and way more confident then before. I wish the best if luck and happiness to anyone who wishes to have the surgery its a great decision.

Thanks for posting. Your story is an inspiration. I have a friend who had gs surgery in December and who went through a lot of feelings of regret. It is nice to see someone who had the same feelings, but who has come out the other side and is doing well

I, as well, regretted the surgery due to complications with dehydration. I am over 5 months out and down roughly 110 pounds. Despite the hospital stays and becoming so weak that I lost the ability to walk, this process taught me much about myself. I am walking now thanks to positive motivation and confidence... two things I never had post-op. I honestly would go through everything again in a heartbeat.

Congrats on your progress thus far!

Thanks guys! Am so glad that my story can help. Many believe that this surgery is easy or outsiders think that your taking the easy way out. They are very wrong because you have to change so much.

STOP THINKING, AND JUST DO IT! Sorry, not my place to say that, but if you are overweight/obese, be goos to yourself, and get the surgery. It is life-changing. You owe it to yourself to get healthy.

(stepping down off my soapbox...)

Pinky- I think you meant 8/23/2012? I had mine 8/21. I also had a hard time the first month. And 6 weeks to the day after my sleeve i needed my gallbladder out. I'm down 54 pounds and am also in a size 16, was a 24. So we have lots of similarities. I'm 51 yo. It's not an easy surgery or a walk in the park for most of us. But I think, across the board, 99% of us are ultimately glad we had it done. But i agree, sometimes I'm like 'what? Only 54 pounds??!' But then I realize that it's 54 darn pounds i will never see again. And like you, I get excited! I also get excited because I feel so much better and have much more energy! I'm glad that you are doing good!! How much more weight would you like to lose? I'm about halfway there.

Reading stories like this give me hope I just had my surgery 12/10/12. I was not nervous or stressed pre-op and post-op with all my new back pain I am really disappointed in choice to have the surgery. MetLife is making my life a living hell and telling me I can only have 28 days off even though my surgeon has advised them to give me until 1-14 and that will give me time to see a specialist and their opinion . I am hoping after I see the specialist they will tell me what went wrong and I can feel as happy as you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
