ovarian cyst, I mean alien watermellon!

Recommended Posts

When I was in Mexico having the band put on, Dr Kuri told me I had a cyst. It was too low for him to take care of. He said it was the size of a orange. When I got home i recovered for a month and went for a ultrasound about the cyst. At that time they said it was huge 23cm! Like a 5 month pregnancy. So I scheduled surgery. I have no insurance and got denied for emergency medical so I had to use my doctor for the surgery and had to wait a month longer. I had surgery Tues of last week, a full Laparotomy, It was so big they could not do it laproscopically. These details are gross, sorry: They cut from my belly button to the crease line above my, ya know. The cyst was so big, it took up the entire right side of my abdomen all the way to my ribs! They removed 4 liters of Fluid, that is 2 giant 2 liter sodas!!!!!!!!!! My ovary was twisted three times, I lost it. Luckily, the doc says my other one looks good cause I hope to use it one day! She said that the sac that formed was so strong and full of blood vessels. When I was recovering form lapband surgery, my body probably focused energy to this growing alien!

I am 8 lbs less now, thankfully! Who else can say they gave birth to a 8 lb baby alien watermellon!!!! Needless to say, I am so glad it is gone, even though I had to do another surgery so soon after lapband. The good news is that I am now 32 lbs lighter than my heaviest! Why am I telling you all this? I know it is common for those of us with a weight problem to have cysts and PCOS, we are not alone! Apparently, surgery or other body trauma can cause existing cysts to grow. If you know of a cyst or have a "functional" cyst beware of not getting rid of it before surgery. I looked pregnant, and now it is gone and I can finally see the weight loss I have been working so hard to loose!

I'm glad you got that taken care of. I had an ovarian cyst before and wow are they painful. Mine was the size of a tennis ball and it was soooo painful i can't imagine how a watermellon one would feel. On a brighter note congrats with the 32 pounds. That's really great!

Wow! Yikes!

And what the hell does count as a medical emergency? Oh Geeze! I sure am glad that you are ok.

I had a large cyst bust, (but nothing as large as yours!) they told me it "resolved on its own" in the ER... Stupid ER ... They had to go in a clean it up later because I still had trouble with pain in my side after it burst.

I'm so glad that you were able to get it taken care of. ((((hugs))))

Ouch!

Bless your heart.

Heck, I totally sympathise. Been there, did that, and wished I didn't have the T-Shirt.

I only tell my story because I agree, obesity can be a special burden on women.

I was on the operating table during a routine TT when the Plastic Surgeon found numerous uterine fibroids. He was so shocked (mad?) that he dragged my WLS surgeon out of the next Operating Room., and pulled him into the O.R. to look at me. The PS demanded to know if he knew I had them. (Of course my WLS doc didn't know. Heck, I didn't know either.:P )

My WLS doc famously said in exasperation, "But, I don't look at her uterus!"

The PSurg then called in an OB/Gyn into the O.R. (the room was so full they should have inplemented a cover charge, LOL ) and he confirmed that it looked like fibroid tumours. What? Unbelievable! I had no symptoms and no idea.

Later I had to have them removed (too big for laproscopic) and my PS 'sat in' and handled the incisions. I'm eternally grateful to him for catching what my former OB/Gyn did not (I have a new one now and she did a fabulous job with the surgery.)

So I'm sorry you had to go through it. :)

But think of it this way, it's the fastest way you'll probably ever lost your 8# and a few inches without lipo! :nervous

This is GOOD to know since I have PCOS and have not had surgery yet.

I can go for Ultrasounds and One time have cysts and another time not have any at all. I was getting an ultrasound to get diagnosed with PCOS and the Xray tech was looking and she said " OH CRAP " i said what . She said well im not suppose to tell you this but you have well over 100 cycts in your right ovary . Turns out I had about the same amount in my other ovary . They were just small ones. I went in for a follow up ultra sound 4 weeks later and all but 40 of them dissolved . Eventually they all dissappeared. Luckily none of mine have been fibroid cysts. Mine always dissappear . But its scarey .

Im glad your ok and im glad your watermelon baby came out .

I think this is something I will make sure is looked into before surgery , i too am self pay . Im putting this on my " What to look into list for pre op " LOL

Thanks again . I hope your doing well

Mindy

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
