Is peanut butter ok during full liquids stage?

Recommended Posts

Would it be safe for me to put about a tablespoon (or less) of Peanut Butter in a Protein Shake? It seems like it would make it taste better, and the Protein would be super helpful. I'm currently in the first two weeks *full liquids* stage of post-op surgery.

I don't know about regular Peanut Butter, but my dietition told me about PB2 it is a powder peanut butter. 2 TBs is 5 g or Protein. I ordered it from Amazon. I add it to my chocolate protein and it is YUMMY taste like a reeses peanut butter cut! It is roasted peanuts with all the oil pressed out and turned to powder. Look it up,

I use the PB2, also. I add sugar free butterscotch pudding to the chocolate whey and Peanut Butter and it makes it a butterfinger-it's yummy! There are a lot of things you can add it to. I love this stuff

I had never hear of the PB2 either until I saw it on here. I live in a small town with no "health food" stores but I happened to walk down the "healthy" isle of my Smith's Grocery store and they had it. I was shocked to see it there and they had the reg and the chocolate PB2. So before you all pay extra shipping check in your local grocery stores. Good luck all it's a good thing to have on hand if you haven't tried it yet :}

I got a recipe grouping from one of my coworkers that has a bunch of whey Protein Shake recipes that are great! It's published by Herbalife but you can use any whey Protein. I'll be happy to e-mail them to you, if you'll send me your address. BTW, I put a tablespoon of the butterscotch pudding mix. The pudding mixes are great for pumping up the flavor and I also add FF Greek yogurt (about 1/2 cup) to make it creamier and it adds 11g of protein.

Peanut Butter kept me sane. I never used the PB2, but I always thought it was perfect for the shakes.

Watch regular Peanut Butter. It is calorie packed and you really have to watch how much you eat. A small bit is all you need. Pre-surgery I used to load a celery stick with about 3 tbs of the stuff. GAAAAAAAAAA! No wonder I was were I was.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
