Surgery postponed (Hurricane Sandy)

Recommended Posts

I was all ready mentally and in the process of getting all my paperwork together for the insurance to hopefully approve surgery . Then, Hurricane Sandy struck and the hospital I worked at got severely flooded . Now, I am out of a job. The only good thing is that I have my husbands insurance to rely on. The bad thing is that the surgeon wants me to meet with a psychologist which is $250.00 cash. To me it's BS the insurance company wants to make sure your not crazy before having this surgery . It's hard to spend that when you don't have your income right now. So, I postponed the surgery and now I'm getting cold feet about proceeding with it. Im also gaining more weight in the meantime being a stressed out mess with no job . I take interest in reading all of the threads of people's weight loss journeys. I would love to hear from somebody that has had the procedure done who can reassure me that I should do it and not to be such a baby !! Thanks Colleen

my original date was 9/6. I started a new job and let them know I was having surgery and at the time they offered me the position they were fine with it. Once I started and was with in one week of surgery and had been on the liquid diet for a week my boss freaked out and said the site was not ready for me to be away for four days. Long story short I had to move my surgery to December. I had to start the liquid diet again. I wanted to quit but i didn't because I needed to lose weight for my long term health! nothing can get in the way of long term health. It was not any easy wait for sure! worth it but not easy!

YOU CAN DO THIS! YUP YUP YUP!

sorry about being laid off from work - yet another fall out of horrible hurricane sandy

You post-poned your WLS - you still have it scheduled?? what is the new date?

having "cold feet?" buy a pair of fuzzy slippers!!! no cold feet allowed here

being seen by a "shrink" is normal protacol. we've all been there done that

as far as hearing stories from past sleevers about the WLS - i suggest to go to "search" put in "Anyone Have A Relatively Easy Recovery Story???

as the above title thread implies - you will hear from many happy campers who have loved their WLS, and proudly tell their story

you'll find other comments/successes through out the board from other happy sleevers

you can hear, read all the good stories, maybe "a few" bad thoughts too but. 99.5% good comments

you came to the wise decision before to have the WLS, don't second guess yourself

most people will say "WLS was the best thing they ever did!!!" I'm nodding my head in agreement :)

good thoughts and wishes being sent

take care

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
