Alamoloser 70 Posted January 4, 2013 I would start with limited walking, sounds like your still sore.
~*~ Melissa ~*~ 31 Posted January 4, 2013 ^ I agree! Walking is the best thing you can do but I would carefully walk in short intervals due to the soreness you are currently experiencing. This way you don't hurt yourself and can get the exercise in. Some people rush and get set back for months. Just remember 'slow and easy wins the race' If it makes you feel any better, I had complications due to dehydration and was in the hospital for over a month. During this time, I lost my ability to walk. I am walking now, working on decreasing my wobble. I usually ride the bike for 20 minutes to work on my quads and then walk a half mile to a mile. Depending how I feel, I'll toss in weight machines, too. Since starting last week, weight has been flying off. I'm a prime example of slow and easy winning
JerseyGirl68 1,172 Posted January 4, 2013 I went to see my surgeron and NUT at 2 weeks out (last Wed) and both said ok to me starting to use my recumbent bike at home, and walking. No weights yet. I have to wait til the end of this month when I go back to get the official okey dokey. Good luck!
IsB 209 Posted January 4, 2013 The key is to do something active 6 days a week. Don't worry about how far or how fast you are going yet. Just make it regular part of your daily routine. Your body will adjust quickly and that running will soon turn to running and you'll be shocked by the amazing physical things you can now do. Keep it up and watch it happen. AlbanyDan 32 Posted January 5, 2013 I was 460 November 2009. Part of the Pre surgery orientation included 4 free sessions with personal trainer. After 10 minutes on treadmill I was done. It 30 minutes to do a mile. I just got under 16 minutes and added 5 miles on stationary bike. delta_girl 931 Posted January 5, 2013 I started exercising at one week....walking. My surgeon insisted on it. I found that being very active almost immediately helped me to recover very fast. Working out the soreness by keeping your body active on a regular basis works. The more sedentary you are, the more sore you will probably be.
elyod59 4 Posted January 6, 2013 They had me walking the halls at the hospital the night of my surgery and I haven't stopped. The only problem I'm having is my legs get sore and tired but they will gain strength, I'm sure. I live in Michigan and just bundle up and keep walking even in the snow. Now that I'm back to work it has gotten next to impossible to walk regularly but I'm finding ways to get short walks in. I've seen a direct correlation between walking and how much I lose.
