how to manage travel home after hospital

Recommended Posts

getting ready to head for Dr Aceves on the 15th. I am concerned about my travel home. I will leave the hospital first thing on Friday morning, travel to the airport and our travel time from there to home will be over 12 hours. i will be at the airport for approx 3 hrs before our flight leaves, the flight is approx 6 hrs, then I have another 1 1/2 hr drive to get home.

What do I bring with me for the day? Since I will be leaving from the hospital, it has to be something I can pack at the beginning of my trip? I want to start off on the right foot. The only thing we will get on the plane is Water or soda (and that's out).

I can pack individual Crystal Lite packets and I thought of using a formula portioning container and putting some Protein Powder in that.

Anyone else experienced the same?

My surgery is in MX on the 17th. I plan to take a couple of packets of the Unjury chicken broth Protein powder and asking for hot Water on the plane to mix it.

My suggestion....don't walk at all. Get them to wheel you around the airport as soon as you get in, on and off the plane. Only walk to get to the bathroom. And don't carry your own bags. They will do that for you too. You don't want to over do it. Once in the airport and past security, I purchased a couple of bottles of juice for the plane. Then when I transfered, I bought another for the second plane ride.

I would make sure they give you a scopolamine patch at the hospital. Nausea can be a killer, and I can only imagine how nauseated I would have been if I had to go on a plane right after surgery. The patch is good for 3 days, it might help and won't hurt.

I also wore those tight full leg stockings they made me wear for surgery, to prevent blood clots. Works great for high altitudes.
