Couch to 5k

Recommended Posts

Downloaded the app on my phone and started today. Day 1 was simple. Skin around my incisions was sore a bit from the running segments. Plan to stick with it and my 2013 goal is to run a 5k with my daughters, who are both competitive runners and run track. Used to run a lot before a broken foot and a ton of weight gain stopped me. Can't wait for the first race some time in future...wish me luck!

I started C25K Monday, I was surprised that I could run (and not pass out at the end). I too have a goal to run a 5K race with my children, they are athletes (teenage boys). I so want to beat at least one of them (I know, not very mommy like), but it will feel really good. :P Good luck to you!!

Good luck. I started C25K back in September. Now I'm running 12-15 miles a week. Love it. Never thought I would like running.

I hate to run - always have but thinking your post gives me hope that maybe, just maybe I could learn to love it! :)

It's a running plan that helps u slowly and systematically build up to running 3.1 miles. It's wonderful. I would recommend that u download the app if u have a smart phone. If u don't have a smart phone there is also a podcast. I prefer the app because I can play music as well. There is also couch to 10k and 10k to half marathon through heavy duty apps.

Ok... I have a question. I have my surgery tomorrow for the sleeve. My dream is to run a 5k. My biggest concern is, how do you stay hydrated, considering limited sleeve space when drinking your Water. My plan is to start running with my daughter 6 weeks post op.

I LOVE the couch to 5k I did it earlier this year and after 2 months was able to run/jog 3miles non stop. Then band slipped again, got sick, had it opened and took vacation and gained 30lbs lol. So gonna start it up again.

I'm interesred in starting c25k as well! I have never ran in the past but my husband told me I'd never be ablevto run which of course made me mad enough to make a 5 k one of my goals! He's going to get out of his recliner and do it with me too! Lol

If you drink a bottle of Water before hand, you will be hydrated enough to run a 5K without drinking additional water while running. It's the same as before being sleeved, you just have to plan to take longer to drink your water than before. You can't just guzzle a big bottle as you're lacing up your running shoes. You have to start sipping on that bottle an hour or more ahead of time so that it's gone by the time you're ready to run. Then when you're done, just remember to drink slowly again.

It's a little bit of a pain, and you have to plan ahead, but it's manageable.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
