A lapband commercial?????

Recommended Posts

When I first began researching this surgery a year ago, nobody ever heard of it! I had two people call me yesterday to say they saw a commercial for lapband surgery on TV! At the end of the add, they show a diagram of it. One was on CNN, the other on Oxygen. I can't believe it has already made it to TV advertising. It won't be long, and those before us will have been the pioneers, Thanks for being brave!

I believe that someone on here is in one of the commercials. I would do it in a heartbeat. I love my band, I am glad to see it getting some positive attention. My sister in NC said she saw a commercial last week too. WooHoo!!!~Mandy

I just saw a commercial tonite! It was by Inamed/Allergan (whatever the new name is), I about fell out of my chair! Hopefully the insurance companies will step up to the plate as it becomes a more well known option for barriatric surgery!

I believe Kyleigh was in a commercial and an old member 'Coffeewench' was in one very early on, somewhere around 2003-2004, I think.

Welcome!

I live in Houston and they run an ad about every 30 minutes on one of the channels. We have some pretty active doctors here. We also have one or two ads a week in the newspaper as well as billboards. Did I mention we have an active market here? Guess that's what we should expect being voted the fattest city in the USA. :)

That commercial is how I first learned about the lapband back in May! I saw it and said, that's exactly what I need! I had been seriously considering gastric bypass until I found out there was a band!

I was totally excited to see the ads! The few people in my life who know think the surgery is so sketchy. Since they've seen the ads they see it as totally legitimate. Tv is so silly that way.

I recorded the 1/2 hour lapband infomercial program aired about a week ago on the health channel. The only grip I have is where a male patient says he went to work the next day - this of course makes me think something must be really wrong with me because I feel like crap. Also another lady says she went home that afternoon and cared for her small daughter. - I couldn't not have done it! The add minimizes the true pain during recovery.

I have been seeing the commercials on here in New Mexico as well. Yesterday I took my parents to get their eyes checked, and one come on in the waiting room. The girl sitting across from me with her Mom said "That's what I need". I told her I had it done 6 months ago. Her questions flew fast and furious!!! She and her Mom both, in fact Mom was willing to finance it for her. She took my # and said she would call to talk about it some more!!! And it was quite the NSV for me....I still have a lot of weight to lose, but the daughter told me she never would have thought I had been fat!!! I floated out of there on a cloud!!!

Pumpkin, we all heal at different rates, I could have taken care of my granddaughter the next day without a problem, as it was I did have her the 3rd day on. I had a very easy surgery and recovery. I don't think they should make it sound like everyone can go back the next day. But I also would hate to see them make it sound like everyone has a 2-3 week recovery, when it may discourage them. Then again if they tried to fit all the information in, it would start sounding like those drug commercials that go on forever with all the possible side effects, they crack me up!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
