Before surgery I went everyday a couple times, but since surgery (10/9) I'm lucky if I got 2x a week! Today I tried to go and I kinda went..it wasn't soft...and I was straining so much that I was getting a hemorrhoid! It's so irritating I do have IBS. So I called the dr and she told me to drink Miralax every 20 mins for 2 hours and I'll go today and if I want drink prune juice too! I want to but I have a couple appts tomorrow and don't want to risk it! I live in the country there's nothing close if I have to go! I'm so confused!

You need to increase your Protein intake and possibly take a mild stool softener. Complications can result if you don't increase the number of bowel movements

Good luck. We've all been there :)

I'm having the same problem! I finally had a BM today, and all day afterwards, I had mild diahrrea (I'm sure I spelled that wrong). I feel fine now, though. I'm still in my full liquids stage, so I figure that there really isn't anything to poop out.

Anyway, good luck! We're in the same boat B)

I had the same problem for a couple of weeks after surgery. Was taking Miralax and stool softner for a couple of days with Milk of Mag. It finally cleared, and now what i do is take Metimucal with my shake in the morning and that seems to be working well. I also use to go every morning like clockwork. Since i work on a job sight and have port-a-johns, im glad i don't go that often!!! LOL Just go with the flow!!! No pun intended!! LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
