When/how did everyone handle their suture removal? I'm scheduled for VSG on 1/21 in MX, and just plan on removing the sutures myself ~10 days afterwards, depending on healing. Thoughts?

Not sure what sutures you are talking about. My laproscopic incisions were glued not stitched, and my internal stitches are reabsorbed by the body on their own. Are you sure they are going to stitch you shut?

I didn't have any external sutures either, I had steri-strips that stayed on for about 10 days (some less). Immediately after surgery there was gauze & clear tergaderm(sp) over the steri-strips and those stayed on for 3 days.

I had staples, but i wouldn't regiment trying to removing anything by yourself with express permission and instructions from your Dr. i don't know much about mx surgeries but don't you have to stay in mx for like 9 days after your surgery? Why not just let the Dr do it. Idk I'm pretty conservative about that stuff though

I just cut them out with nail clippers. You can buy a suture removal kit though. Make sure everything is sterilized. I took mine out after 10 days.

I went to Mexico also and you won't have sutures or staples. Your incisions will either be taped or glued. No worries. Call your coordinator if you are worried and they should be able to inform you.

Ditto on what amazon13 said. And no, ckatie one does not need to stay in MX more than 3 days unless there are concerns. On day 3, I was out running around sightseeing, shopping, pedi, mani, Botox etc. I had a blast! Then hung around the pool in TJ. We were scheduled to return to San Diego, but we were having so must fun we stayed an extra day!

Some people do seem to have stitches they have to take out. I had dissolvable stitches so didn't have to remove any. Your doctor will give you instructions on what you need to do post-op.

I had stitches - my surgeon says they heal the best that way as they really tighten together the scars. 8 weeks out and I can hardly see my scars now. I wouldn't take them out myself though unless u have medical experience - that's like waxing yourself!

I had staples put in. I wouldn't recommend you removing them yourself. I went to the local clinic with a prescription from my surgeon to get them removed. I to thought about removing them myself. But it's better to leave that to a nurse.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
