I'm on Biotin, too. I just had my surgery so I haven't had Hair loss yet. Any possible counter measures to hair loss I am willing to take tho!

I had surgery on 11/15 and I've been taking liquid Biotin and silia as well as a pre-natal Vitamin that is chewable (yucky tasting though) that my doc prescribed which for some reason helps my hair look great! The liquids I get in a health store called Basil Bandwagon and it's called Biosil and Silia drops. I think they help so far and I have thin hair. I'm not quite 3 months out yet and that is when the loss is said to occurr, I'm hoping it does not, but if it does, perhaps it won't be as bad. I also have a biotin pill but it's quite large and since I'm not a great pill swallower to begin with, I don't want to risk it just yet.

Where do you get Biotin? Do you need a prescription or is this OTC?

Biotin is OTC. I know the sell the pills in any drug store but I was looking for the liquid biotin since we are limited to intake.

Biotin capsule is basically a Vitamin tha tyou can get in any health store or even Walmart/Target or supermarkets.

The liquid Biotin Biosil and Super Silia I get at a health food store called Basil Bandwagon. We have one in town, but you can probably order on line as well. The biosil comes in caplet or liquid, so make sure you get the liquid form where ever you buy it. I haven't seen those in regular stores like Walmart, but I'm sure many of the health food/organic stores may sell them.

But, you haven't had surgery, yet. Is it possible that post-surgery, your body will not respond negatively to the Biotin? I mean, we need a lot more nutrients post-surgery than pre-surgery, so wouldn't biotin be something like that?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
