MK1986 78 Posted January 3, 2013 Has anyone ever gotten there supervised diet waived from the insurance company. I can't lose weight because I have bad knees and can't exercise and the doctor has noted this is his file. I have done 3 months already and I am afraid that going 3 more months I will suffer and still have no results. Any luck with getting it waive..I'm with Bcbs of wny. jen1211 203 Posted January 3, 2013 I believe they only wave it for BMI's over 50.
TheGamer 406 Posted January 3, 2013 I got approval without it, but I had a very high starting BMI. According to my insurance there was no exception to the requirement, but my surgeon's office went ahead and submitted even though they said there was, but a month later I'd gotten my approval. cherished 3 Posted January 3, 2013 My insurance did not require anything if over 40 BMI or 35 BMI plus a qualified health issue. I went round and round to find criteria finally we just submitted and got approved there was nothing in my plan really saying what was needed.
MK1986 78 Posted January 4, 2013 Well...I called the ins. Company today. I was told that the doctor has to write this in the letter of medical necessity. I am hoping I can get this done much sooner.
