Pre-Op 2 day Clear liquid diet

Can you drink a Protein Drink like uninjury? I read somewhere on one of the folks stories that she drank uninjury traveling to MX. I can't seem to find my details about clear liquid diet, but my memory does not include Protein Drinks, just broth, popcicles, G2, Water, crystal light ...

I drank Protein Drinks right up to the end, pre-op. My instructions said "liquids only" the last two days, not "clear liquids only", so my interpretation was that I could still have the Protein Shakes, just not the green veggies, etc that I could the previous 7 days.

If I interpreted that wrong, well, it's all over now, and I came through just fine! :)

I drank Protein right up to the day before my surgery.. You can start adding drinkable yogurt on day 4 post-op and if you feel up to it... protein shakes.... by day 7 post-op you should be getting in a good 60g's of protein a day.... You will receive a packet that has all of your post-op info in it along with a calendar that will tell you what stage you can eat on each day. They really are very thorough at OCC... I had a great experience. As far as the pool??? It's nice and private with lounge chairs, waiter service, etc.. BUT... it's still pretty chilly. My surgery was April 16th 2012 and the Water was wayyy too cold.. Even for my feet.. But I did lay on a lounger while in my maxi dress and ate a popsicle that the waiter brought out to me! :)

You guys are gonna do great!!! The staff at OCC are superb!! Love them all! :)

This question is a little off topic maybe.....does the Marriott have hair dryers in the rooms?? I'd rather not take up the space in my carry on if it's not needed. Thanks! :)

Also... a good idea depending on when you are flying home...... Take a Blender Bottle with you and some Protein power in a ziploc.... That way you can mix up a drink if needed and not have to worry about taking liquids through TSA..

The sublingual pain meds are called "Supradol" which is the equivilant to "Toradol" here in the US. It is NOT a narcotic pain pill and they are available to purchase at OCC for an additional $25.00 or so... You can also purchase additional nausea meds if needed. I had no nausea, no gas and just a general soreness in my mid-section so I didn't have to purchase anything additional to what I had to purchase when I was discharged (around $100.00 I think). Dr. Ortiz also has his own line of Vitamins and shakes called Enspira. I bought 4 bottles before my surgery and started taking them about 3 weeks before my surgery. I still take them today. The bottle says 4 daily but I only take 1 - 2. I personally don't see a need to take more than that. Just a tip... I also take an additional B-12 supplement not because I have too but I want too.. The benefits of B12 are amazing and I have felt great ever since taking them.

Good Luck Ladies!!!! :)

Thank you, this is great advice. I was starting to think last night about how to get protein on the plane. At four days post op, do you need clear protein?

I stay about half my life in Marriott hotels. Blow dryers are definitely in the rooms. Typical bath stuff includes Shampoo, conditioner, soaps and lotion. Secret is the front desk will give you toothpaste and deodorant as well as razors. These are also sold in the store but they have them behind the counter too. the only thing they don't comp is hair product. Plus there is in room coffee and usually tea bags with at least one being a Decaf herbal type.

(typing this as I stare around my Marriott room in Atlanta!)

Make sure you understand that the Dr. Ortiz at Mi Doctor is NOT Dr. Ariel Ortiz from Obesity Control Center... 2 very different doctors, 2 very different facilities. Make sure you know who is doing your surgery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
