Full liquids starting 2nd week post op...how much soup?

Recommended Posts

I am beginning my week of full liquids. I am having a time getting enough Water to keep from getting dehydrated even though I feel like I am drinking all day. My question is, since I can have Soup, how much can you eat? Being that it is strained, is there a limit we should eat at a time? The soup goes down a lot better than just plain water but I don't want to eat too much and stretch my sleeve. Of course I don't think I am eating more than 1/2 a cup at a time. Thanks for any input.

At most 4 oz, but being so newly sleeved, I doubt you can get that much in honestly so don't worry too much that you will go over.

My dr. has told me the tummy, once completely healed, should not have more than 4-6 ozs in it at a time. Or 3-4 golf balls (I'm visual). As you get further away from surgery, you will be able to eat just a little more so I try to keep this in mind.

Remember to SIP SIP SIP and be slow about it. You are going to begin learning the difference now between head hunger and true hunger, if you were a true food addict like I was/am.

Good luck to you!

Hi there! I was sleeved 12/24 and I can tell you that I have been experiencing everything you said. I also have been having a hard time getting in my fluids. When it comes to my "meals" I've only been able to get in about 1/3 cup at most. The first week after surgery was hard, but over the last 2-3 days things have been getting easier. I actually drank 30oz of Water last night in roughly a 2 1/2 hour span and I was practically giddy! I have been doing a better job of taking Water anywhere I go and just making myself take constant sips. It adds up over the course of a day.

I'm sure this is normal we are still swollen internally! I have my 2 week check up on Monday, so far I am down 20lbs since surgery. I'd like to hit 25 for my 2 week weigh in but we'll see :)

We take no more than three tablespoons at Breakfast, lunch or dinner, Soup or cream of wheat, and yes, sipping, all day long, every ten or 15 min. I take three little sips.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
