I am 3.5 weeks out, sleeved on December 10th. I have been mostly okay. Tired and dehydrated, I am sure due to not achieving my liquid and Protein goals. During the last few days I have been slightly nauseated, but today I started getting pain in my lower back. The pain is on both the left and right side of my low back/upper buttocks. I am worried because I thought I read somewhere on this board that it could be a sign of a leak. Any advice would be appreciated! My husband leaves in the am for work and will be out of state for a few days atleast. I will be alone with 2 kids and I am afraid of being sick.

I'm not sure to much of the leaks and if and how they exist but maybe your not drinking to much fluids and try propel or crystal lite maybe that will help with the amounts of fluids you should be drinking

I hope you feel better

It's most likely your sciatic nerve from you sleeping differently or from weight loss and you moving differently now.

Thanks guys. I am drinking as much as possible. I do crystal lite and oddly enough plain Water is fine with me post op. I just have a hard time getting the 64oz I need.

I have had a lot of back pain that comes and goes and I have figured it was sleeping weird, etc. A lot of times pain will radiate to different places from the origin so it could literally be from your stomach. Try to keep getting that Fluid in, lots and lots. good luck.

Sounds like you might have kidney pain. The location that you are describing sounds like my previous issues with my kidneys. Since you are possibly dehydrated it could be causing strain on your kidneys. I'm not a Dr., but if it gets worse or you spike a fever, you should be seen by one. Best of luck and feel better soon! :-)

I, too, was going to say kidneys, but I think they are a little higher that top of buttocks. How is your peeing?

Well at my husband's urging I went to ER. He's terrified I get a leak and he wanted me to feel better since he was leaving today for work out of town for a few days. I was a little nervous myself so in I went. I couldn't produce enough pee for a uti test so they gave me 2 bags of fluids and I have felt better today. ER doctor was super supportive and sweet to me. High fived me for losing 30 lbs and said he absolutely didn't think I had a leak. Today I felt no more pain and I had more energy too. Trouble is I still am not drinking enough. I am not a carry the bottle around sipping all day person. I am just too busy all day with kids, dogs, and a house we are nearly finished building. I don't think about my Water until the evening when I finally sit down. I don't know how to make myself less distracted.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
