Hi All

I am ashamed to say that I have set up a new username because although I haven't used these boards for a while, I may still have some friends here. And I'm embarrassed about my situation right now and would rather remain anonymous...

I am also aware that there is a pregnancy specific section on these boards but it doesn't get much traffic and I could really use some help soon.

I am just over 2 years out from surgery, and got down to 4lb above goal and stayed there for almost a year. I was exercising regularly and eating well.

In October I discovered that despite having PCOS and being told I was highly unlikely to be able to conceive without medical help, that I am pregnant with my first child.

I am incredibly happy and grateful for this blessing and wouldn't change it for the world. However...

I have been using the pregnancy as an excuse to eat more, and feel like I've totally lost control. In my first trimester I felt queasy as soon as my stomach got empty, so I felt I needed to eat almost constantly to keep the ill feeling at bay. Now I wonder if that was all in my head and a convenient excuse to graze.

I am now well into my second trimester and totally let myself go over Christmas, getting back into bad binging habits which plagued me before surgery. I avoided weighing myself, saying that I am bound to be gaining weight because I am pregnant. Also been telling myself I mustn't diet or restrict my food intake at this time for the sake of the baby.

And it's all nonsense, every bit of it. Tonight I weighed myself and I am up 18lb, and I'm on week 19 of my pregnancy. I should only have gained about 7-10lb by this point.

The bottom line is that I'm afraid and I need help. I need to pull myself together and start eating Protein first, cut the carbs, drink more Water, and face reality. I don't want my surgery to have been a failure, and I most definitely don't want some part of me to blame the pregnancy for making me fat again when it is entirely my own fault.

I don't want to tell my boyfriend or family about this because I am ashamed. Some words of wisdom would be much appreciated guys. Or a kick up the ass, whatever you think is most appropriate!

Thank you

You will be ok, 18lbs isn't much. Perhaps you should sit down and have a heart to heart with your boyfriend and let him know the struggles you are having and that you need his help. I would also suggest that you find a local support group. I think you will be okay if you get it under control now. Good luck and congratulations.

(((hugs))) I agree, you will be fine! you have realized you are using your pregnancy as an excuse. Just start eating healthier again. Talk to you OB about your weight, is he concerned?

Contact your nutritionist and see if you can work out a meal plan that is healthy for you and for the baby. You've not gone past the point of no return and you can get this under control to your satisfaction. Best of luck to you, continue to reach out. From all I have seen on this forum, your friends will have your back and help motivate you.

First off, congrats on being a new mom...second, sounds like you know what you need to do to stay at a healthy weight gain. It may sound like a lot of weight gain right now because you've been losing for so long but the reality is, your probably not going to balloon up to old weight anytime soon. Keep up a light walking workout and watch your food choices.

Congratulations on the pregnancy!! Talk to your OB about the pregnancy and what you really need nutritionally- talk to your boyfriend about supporting you in healthier choices for you and your child. I am going to have the surgery so I can be a more active mom and live longer (hopefully) for my kids....you are just starting out, don't blow it. Envision you as a fit and healthy and active mom...then put the non-plan food down.

I will speak to my midwife soon if I can't get this under control. Don't want to admit to them that I'm struggling. Need to just get over that.

I do use myfitnesspal but I don't use it properly. I have it set to private and even then I miss things off...

These are good suggestions, and making me realise what a coward I'm being. Come on girl, get a grip!

I saw a great nutritionist at the start of my pregnancy. We went through my diet and she was really impressed with it, making only a few minor tweaks. She said I am the first person she has seen who has had WLS and eats a balanced diet and uses the tool properly.

A couple of weeks after that, BOOM. I lost all determination and control.

I know exactly what I need to eat, I just seem to have sabotaged myself and this time I am having trouble getting back on track.

Wondering if I shoukd use myfitnesspal in advance to plan my food for the next day. Then stick to it. Anyone else use this method?

Thanks again for the replies so far, much appreciated

We are all on our own journeys. Be patient with yourself. Expecting a baby can be a significant stress (even if highly desired)! You've recognized that you want to change and reached out for support. What a great start. :)

Bring those emotional eating tools to bear and cut yourself a little slack, lol.

First of all, please don't be ashamed! I promise you we have all prob had kids.... I have three and 25-35 lbs is normal gain. Just take a deep breath and eat how you learned how. The healthy way. I promise it's the baby not you! Look how far you came! Congrats on the baby that's truly amazing!

Also talk to your Ob and see what they say about gain and sleeve pregnancies. Good luck. Keep us posted! Xoxoxox

If I was in your shoes I would start planning what i am going to eat the day before. I also weigh daily and I don't flip out if the scale fluctuates some but I feel it keeps me focused on my health if I start my day that weigh and I can't avoid or convince myself I am not gaining if the scale keeps creeping up. Don't panic yet bc 18/19 pounds isn't that big of a deal but its much harder to control your eating the last half of the pregnancy so it's great that you are catching yourself now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
