Approved! Now I'm freaking out!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

A little history-

Banded in June 2010.

Starting weight:262.5

3 slips in less than 2 years- followed the rules, but told it needed to come out anyway as "it's just a piece of plastic that is no longer doing its job." :/

June of 2012, I was down to 166.7 lbs and had to have a complete unfill.

Presently- I'm probably close to 200 again, but found out on 12-31-12 that I am approved for VSG.

My doctor told me the sleeve will mostly likely stop me from gaining anymore, but that I probably wouldn't lose a whole lot more than I did with the band. WTH?!?!? Does that sound right to you??? How does removing 50% of my stomach (at least, according to my doctor) not lead to a successful weight loss??

I'm not sure of my surgery date at this point, but truthfully I'm apprehensive about this surgery as there is no going back once half of your stomach is sitting in a landfill somewhere. KWIM?! :)

Thanks!

Well, you know what I think! You will lose weight - you will. You've done it once, there's no reason to think you won't be successful again. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
