Why does my nose run when I am full?

Recommended Posts

I don't understand why my nose runs when I am full. Just curious if anyone has this happen to them. Do you know the reason why? Or is it just one of those lap-banding phenomena? Any light that can be shed would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Irish Girl. This sounds like it's your "soft stop." Many, many bandsters have a signal that lets them know that they are done, done before they come to a HARD STOP

Some folks get the hiccups, and I know that the runny nose is pretty common.

For many of us, we have to learn when "enough" really is enough. Many of us don't think we are full unless we are ready to pop. It's about learning our bodies, and what "saity" feels like.

Strength and Courage!

even before i was banded, i would always sneeze when i was full. this would happen long before my stomach let my brain know to stop eating.

As long as I can remember, I've always gotten a stopped-up nose when I get full. Since it is almost Halloween, I can even get gross and say I'll lose 2 lbs after blowing my nose. My family has always made fun of my peculiarity. Needless to say, I've always bought stock in Kleenex, but not so much since I've been banded.

I want to know the answer to this, too... My nose never used to run when I was full, but it does now - is it just a build-up of mucus that would normally enter the stomach area, but is trapped?

Mucus is produced to help the food sliddddddde on down the digestive tract and carbs begin digestion in the mouth. Once you've reached the point of being full and the stomach can accomodate more, it begins over producing digestive enzymes and mucus and that can lead to the runny nose, etc.

I find once my nose begins to run a little, it's time to put the fork down. If I get hiccups, it means I've over eaten.

I get bubbles when full. I can open my mouth and you can actually hear little air bubbles popping in my throat. My dd says I am like stitch in Lilo and Stitch, you open my mouth and can hear noise, close it and it stops, like a speaker. ( I guess you have to see the movie to get it). The doctor says it's the food passing from pouch to stomach and the air in the stomach has to go somewhere, I am lucky my air comes up not down and out.....LOL I know that is a sign to STOP, now, not one more bite. I have also been known to hiccup one time, a full sign for sure. ~Mandy

I wish I had a soft stop. I only get a runny nose after I've eaten too much and PB! Pay attention because it means 'stop eating'.

You know, I just love this forum!!! I had a friend who used to go to AA meetings and she would say, if she listened, God would give her just what she needed to hear. I'm starting to feel the same way about this place. The other day I was reading a thread where someone was talking about hiccups being their sign to stop. My very next meal I started feeling like maybe things were feeling a bit funny and I should stop....next thing I know HICCUPS!!!! Today, I was reading this thread, then came home for lunch....this time MY NOSE STARTED TO RUN!!!! I was like OMG, this is just what they were talking about! How fun is that??? Thank you guys so much for being there for us beginners!!! Much love....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
