Should i be able to eat this?

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 days postoperative and I was just able to eat 4/5 a can of chunky Soup that I blenderized first - chicken rice gumbo. A can is 24 ounces.

Does this seem like too much to u guys?

I think my surgeon uses a pretty big boogie in men and I think he said size 40?

Just wondering some of your thoughts

I'm 2 weeks out and can only eat 1/4c. of anything. I just saw my nutritionist on monday who said by 3 months out you should be able to eat 1/2c., and by a year out you should be at 1c....and then that's the limit. Maybe you should measure and stick with that....don't want to stretch it out too soon.

Traci gives good advice. Measure your food until you get a good feel for portion size. At 4 days out I was still struggling with drinking (I was on full liquids for 2 weeks post-op).

It's likely that you can't feel the "full" sensation so soon and it'd be safer t measure. Good luck!!

For me I was always able to have more liquids, really with no feeling of restriction. It kind of went Water > shakes > mush > soft foods > solid foods in terms of how much I can have before I'm done. I can down a whole cup of tea like nobody's business, but I can only eat 2 or so ounces of chicken or fish before my body goes "woah, that's enough."

You'll find that as you move up to solid food, it takes less to get full.

Did your surgeon give you specific instructions? I was only allowed to have Clear Liquids the first week (nothing creamed) and only a max of 4 oz/hour. I would check with your doctor to ensure you don't damage anything.

I can drink a 8 oz glass of Water or tea with no issue in 20 minutes. I haven't changed completely to full liquids yet

Having that much chunky Soup with chicken at 4 days out seems like a lot.

Not to be preachy but you really have to be paying attention to what you are doing to be successful with the sleeve. It is just a tool, not a cure! Measure your meals and only give yourself 1/2 cup or 3/4 cup at a time. That way you won't briefly forget while you are watching TV. Make an effort to sit down at a table and really pay attention to what you are eating and how you are feeling.

Don't dwell on what's done, just change it on the future.

Also, you may not feel the restriction while on liquids. When you move to solids you will hopefully find that you fill up much quicker with the dense Proteins.

I would definitely measure out portions. I had a 40f bougie as well and can only eat about a 1/4c to 1/2c at a time depending on what it is I'm eating. shakes, Water is different like others said.

Maybe touch base with your nut or surgeon again to get on base with the requirements.

Good luck.

I am 4 days out and learning about my stomach and what full is . I can only take 2 oz right now takes me about 10-12 min to drink it. I was sleepy tonight took my 3oz Dixie cup put some Water in it, an drank it down, I then said "oh crap". Had sharp pain, big burp, and 2-3 hiccups.

The rest of the day I am more mindful and it took me 1hr to drink 6 oz of Decaf coffee, an dit felt fine

Best to pre measure everything so that doesn't happen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
